the mechanic supposedly cleared the codes when the sensor was installed but soon as i drove off
the check engine light and vsc lights came back on!
and i tried the diy with the wire and the pins on the dianostic port!
the lights stayed off for a moment and came back on!

thanks in advance

Just to be clear, did you short pins 4&14? When you short them, you should see the VSC light flash very fast.

The lights always go off when you turn the key off then restart the engine...the will still be off, now put it in gear, after a few feet, the lights come back on...if this is happening then you should try pins 4&14 again. Just to make sure you did the correct pins...when the wire is shorted, make sure the VSC light flashes fast...

My experience is with Toyota's and I've not had this problem with Lexus's, nonetheless, on Toyota's I've found that a bad air/fuel sensor can trigger an O2 sensor light. For this reason, I've always replaced all O2 and all air/fuel sensor at the same time. Every single time, this has corrected the problem. I do the work myself and it takes about 1.5 hours to replace all 4 sensors. The parts usually cost me around $350. YMMV.

Do you have a code reader/checker? If si, check for codes, if not I believe you need to hookup a jumper on pins 13&4, I believe. There should be a thread on how to pull the codes. It will make a light on the dash blink pause and blink a certain amount of times, giving you a two digit number of times.

I had a similar experience when the dealer replaced one of my O2 sensors. The VSC and CEL came back on. Dealer later admitted that they broke one of the wires when replacing the O2 sensor and had to fix the wires.

I forget what the codes were for the second go round.

I found this in a Mercedes Benz forum, he is referring to the p0133 and p0136 codes...

Problem solved.
I rechecked everything and found super small exhaust leak. It was a hairline crack in the first, upstream CAT on the weld where cone is attached to the cylinder. Crack was so small that at low idle leak was only detectably when CAT was still cold. It is hard to belive system is so sensitive. After welding and several drive cycle (system goes through some kind of adjustment for the first 3-5 drive cycles) the codes did not showed up anymore.
Similar problem and solution were posted by Benz97 on 10/22/09.

I just saw another post about a Hyundai having an exhaust leak that was causing the code.

Could the new O2 sensor Be defective?

Google these codes...also, I believe the code is p0133 not po133

A Volvo driver said the codes went away after he drove the car for a week, 400 miles. He thought the ECU adjusted to the new O2 sensors.

Don't think I have an exhaust leak
But I have a smell coming from my exhaust!
I'll check the sensor wires to see if they're broken

I have a 2002 sc430 had the same code, bought the o2 sensor from advanced auto, installed it myself, reset the code with their borrowed reader, turned on the car and BAM...code again. After reading some posts, I realized that it could be the same sensor, they are sometimes defective. Went back to advanced auto told them my situation and they did an exchange, the new one worked like a charm! Good luck
