Default Program disk is inserted

Ive fixed most of the minor issues with my recently acquired 2002 sc and so i guess its time to tackle the last "big" one.

When i open the nav screen it just shows "Program disk is inserted" and I cannot leave this menu. I checked the GPS disc its a ver.1. It doesn't look like there is any scratches or scuffs on the back of the disc and i believe the DVD drive components are still operational (i dont think the motor burnt out otherwise i would get that notorious Disc not detected issue).

I think the previous owner might have tried to update the system with a newer disc but somehow corrupted the firmware. Is there an override procedure to reset the stock ver.1 firmware?

Actually your disk is one year newer than mine. Note that you have the update caution at the bottom and mine does not. That caution is referring to the disk I have. Also the year on my disk is 2000.<br/>Hope this helps a little.

I think I read somewhere that if you go to a newer disk it updates the firmware and you can no longer use older disks. Could be that someone had a newer disk and removed it and put the older one back in.

You might try getting a newer disk, even if it is for test purposes. You can usually pick up a 3-4 year old disk online for under $50, which would be an upgrade to the 15 year old one you have. One other thing that may have happened is the previous owner may have installed the 2005 head unit, which uses a different disk. You can find threads about it in the forum, and could in fact replace the unit if you think yours is non-functional..

I was told by my service tech a long time ago, that if you remove the disk from the drive, disconnect the battery for 15 minutes (ECU reset), reconnected the battery and insert the original disk the firmware will be reset. I've never tried but it's what I was told.
