Default Stop The Top

Your opinion please.....
Do you.. have you opened or closed the top and stop the process in mid stream ?
I am having the windows tinted and it would be easier to apply the back window with the top half up or down. BUT I don't like the idea of stopping the process,,, doing the work and then closing the top a little later.
Your thoughts please

I do it all the time to clean the rear window on the inside and clean the wind-blocker (only way to get it clean with the roll bars back there).

When I had mine tinted, they did exactly what you describe - they traced out the outline of the rear window (on the outside), opened the top until the rear window was straight up, stopped it & applied the film. Worked perfectly.

No problems at all....

I have been reluctant to try cleaning my back window using this procedure, coming up with all kinds of gadgets to help me to do this job, nothing works to my satisfaction. We winter in Naples FL. And my neighbor has just purchased an Sc430 and he demonstrated for me how he stops the top mid stream, it looks like it is not a problem. As soon as I get back to Rochester and get my car out of winter storage that is how I'm cleaning my back window. I just had to see it to believe it.

I do this all the time at shows sometimes for a few hours to show off the interior and also the custom airbag trunk set up while in display. Hope it doesn't put too much stress if so, Ill fix w.e needed be, but that interior has to be shown off!

I've been using the mid cycle pause to clean my rear deck and glass since 2002. I just make sure it gets the point at which it will self support. I just make sure not to apply too much pressure to cause strain on the paused motors. I've never had a motor or top problem to this day. (Knock on wood and fingers crossed). I had my rear window also tinted in the same fashion as proposed by the OP and othes. No issues. In fact, when I bought the car new in 2002, during the walk around the service manager actually told me that's the only way to clean the rear glass. So it must be the only true Lexus way. When in Rome. Good luck.

I think it will help.

Basically ...

1. Make sure the roof is down and the ignition is on.

2. Press the Valet/Trunk lock button in the glove box to LOCK the roof in the down position.

3 Within 10 seconds of pressing the valet button/locking the roof down. Press the OPEN main switch for the roof on the dash TWICE.

4 Then PRESS AND HOLD the CLOSE side of the main switch (with in 10 seconds of step 3) until the rear windows come up.

Upd. Sorry i thought you are about litle rear windows...

Evgeniy, great advice on raising up the corner windows. I learned about this technique after my tint guy contorted himself in the back seat. Needless to say, some edges of the windows aren't the greatest. Hindsight, i guess.

As for the video/pics of the top paused at midcycle... I can't drop my top right now as it's full of snow due to Chicago weather. Maybe someone in a warmer locale will help out with the request.

What is the procedure for lowering them back down or can you just raise the top?
