sorry to post this in the lex forum but you asked ! - chalcedony blue (see pic) which is not supposed to be available on sl 55 class but designo rep said ''kein problem'' ! interior is desgno exclusive black and aluminium dash - every option except panoramic roof......
Don't know whether this colour on your picture of the Benz is the same as the Diamond Silver metallic, which is a very light metallic silverish blue available for the SL here.
I saw a SL55 in Vancouver here several weeks ago with this colour, and it sure looks hot.

i dont really know about diamond blue-silver but it sounds similar. i can say that when it comes to colour selection, we mulled over it for months - here was the selective process before we actually saw the colour (in the pic) at the geneva motor show.
blue (magenta) variocolour - chosen from a 4 by 6 sample. then we saw a similar paint at the show and ugh !
black - on an actual car for sale - in one month of being in the showroom the scratches from the ''polishing'' were very offputting. black shows these imperfections mercilessly.
silver - easy maintenance but everyone's got that colour here....i counted 10 silver cars in a row queuing for the show last weekend !
the colour we finally chose is stunning in the sunlight and i can well see a real benefit in NOT having to visit the car wash immediately after a 4 hour drive in the rain which is what i did with my black mica lex.
and finally there is no other car in switzerland or france with chalcedony blue and i thought if you spend that kind of money you have to have something a little unique.
just my 50cents

i bought a new sl 55 amg without a panoramic roof because the latter doesn't change the light much in the interior when the roof is closed.
it is unnecessary when the winter comes here at minus 1 degrees centigrade ambient. providing it is not snowing or raining. clear frosty blue sky mornings in switz at minus 10 deg c ? i will put my roof down and don thick coats. but that's next winter.........
you can still put the roof open in the sunshine cos it is warmer inside than the lex (the heated seats in the merc boil your butt too much - bad for piles i am told )......the back 2 windows close too (unlike the lex)...... there is a huge wind spoiler at the rear that snaps up by hand and is 200 pct more effective than the perspex insert on the lex....
finally a blackish glass roof on top of the light blue paint below on the main body makes the car look like a toyota previa or a renault espace
so i plumbed for all round attraction (me and them) and simplicty.
resale value had nothing to do with it of course !!!!!!
cheers

Congratulations!
I also live in Vancouver and saw the light "blue" SL55.. It looked different!
I must admit that the SL55 does have more power/performance and a more "sporty" look than the SC430, but I would still get the SC430 (if money is a factor, which it is!
)
The reasons I would choose the SC430:
wind noise with top down (I heard, but never really compared the two)
reliability
costs, etc.
