Default Spare Tire mod

I recently had a shop do the spare tire modification that I saw others do on this forum. I found an Mazda RX-8 spare on craigslist for $145 including shipping, then paid the shop a small amount for the install. I think it turned out well.

Looks like you got a brand new spare. Nice.

Are you able drop the top with the spare in the trunk?

Well, of course Harold57. Otherwise, you could just toss a full size spare in the trunk.

The top closes with plenty of room to spare, for golf clubs, groceries or whatever normal use. I got the idea from this thread https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...unk-space.html

Default Very nice...

I love this mod and am going to do it to my '06..that is as soon as I find a spare!
The good thing about sharing like this is you can pick up some very kool ideas but the bad thing is that EVERYONE else has the same idea at the same time! I guess that's why there are no RX-8 spares to be found. I've searched and was not able to find a definitive answer but does a RX-7 spare also make an acceptable spare for our SC430's? I know it's a tad smaller, which is good for trunk space but also means we shouldn't run it on the rear, right? Isn't that also an issue with a RX8 spare?

So, will a RX7 spare work? They aren't so elusive...

I have an extra RX8 Spare after trading in one of my SC430's two months ago. It is like new with a cover over the rubber tire for extra protection. See attached pictures.

I'm not sure how much it would be to ship but if anyone wants it send me a PM.

It is going to be a pain to find a box for it.

Price to the first Club Lexus member who sends me a PM will be $100 PLUS Shipping. I''m just guessing the shipping will be about $50 from Tampa Florida Area. If anyone want to pick it up I am between Sarasota and Tampa FL

By the Way. The above RX-8 spare can be just layed in the trunk and there is still room to drop the top.

Here's a link to Cadzilla88's write-up for the space saving version that Stillline refers to.

I've got one PM from a member who is interested. Once shipping price us confirmed and ok by the buyer I'll post sale complete.

Default Hate I missed this but

To save on shipping go with FedEx ground. I would not use a box though, get a large piece of cardboard (just go behind a furniture store like Rooms to Go or Ashley and there is a ton of large cardboard donor boxes) Roll the tire a couple times like a burito and tuck the sides. Finish it off with a roll of packaging tape Keeping it as small as possible should keep you out of the oversized range. Print the lable from fedex.com and slap it on and drop it off. You don't even have to wait in line just walk to the fron and put it on the counter...
