Is there a way to change out the bulbs on the speedometer to make them brighter or newer?

 

Yeah! The LEDs (3528) are soldered on the circuit board. You can replace them with brighter LEDs. I did this last year and replaced the OEM 3528 LEDs with 5050 cool white LEDs. You have to know what you are doing, otherwise you can damage the instrument cluster.

There are eight (8) white LEDs that require replacement on the circuit board. The larger LEDs are obvious.

As requested here is a night shot. I have the setting for the LEDs on high or brightest. As you can see the back light is no longer a yellowish hue.

 

Man that looks nice. Way brighter than the original. I wonder will it look nice with blue LEDs. Can you tell me what kind of LEDs will I need to purchase? Also, all you had to do was remove the old LEDs and solder the new ones on? Thanks

You require PLCC-6 SMD Clear/White 5050 LEDs x 8. If you want a clear white back lighting.

They will replace the 3528 LEDs (8x).

This mod requires you have some basic electronic background and soldering experience.
From a scale (1-10), this mod is an 8+. Do not attempt this mod if you have no basic knowledge on solid-state components.

You also need to remove the instrument cluster and disassemble it.
