Default Need your help with Coilovers- is $2500 too much installed with edfc? Air suspension?

Dear Friends,

I'm seriousely considering buy Tein Comfort Sport (CS) Coil Overs with adjustable in cabin computer. Swift Racing Technologies (SRT) say they can do this for $2500 installed. The EDFC would be installed in the cigarette area.

My questions are as follows:

1. Will Tein CS provide improved ride quality?

2. Is $2500 for everything, including the EDFC computer in-cabin, too much?

3. Are there alternatives to Tein CS that would provide equal quality and ride comfort at a lower price?

4. If I were to buy a set of Coilovers off a vendor like Amazon, what would you suggest (i.e., bearing in mind my goal is improved ride quality and not stiffness)?

5. Should I look into air suspension instead? What is your opinion on air suspension? I see kits for $2400 on amazon. Are any of those good?

6. Would a shop like Merchants be able to install Coilovers? How about air suspension? Is it a complicated procedure?

Thank you very much in advance! Lex

1. Over factory suspension? No.

2. Yes.

3. Tein CS would be the best bet for quality and aftermarket ride comfort but you can get one for around $1400 - $1500. Installation should be around $100-$150 (I got my BC coilovers installed for $100). So you do the math.

4. BC coilovers do the job. Cheaper quality than Teins but also lower in price.

5. Not sure, I'm looking into those myself.

6. Never heard of them.

I'm with MrMark on this one. Once you dump the run flats wha's wrong with the ride as is?

Default Coilovers

My ride is stiff and jittery even without run flats. When I took off the run flats the ride did greatly improve, but there still is little shock absorption. I asked one mechanic to look at my shocks, and he said they were "tired but not terrible", and they are not leaking. My tires are Michelin super sport grand touring, and are rated number one in their class by tirerack.

I'm looking for a comfortable ride. I don't mind some stiffness but I do need some shock absorption.

How comfortable are the BC cool overs? What setting do you use? Do you have an in cabin computer to adjust? Also, which specific model do you suggest? I see several models on amazon that go for about $995.

I really appreciate everyone's help!!!

Honestly, OE replacement would be your best bet since any coilover will give you a firmer ride, not a more comfortable than stock ride. Stick with factory replacement struts.

Default Shocks and struts

Should I replace shocks, struts, or both? I guess I don't really understand the difference :-(

I am also with MrMark on this. If you class 'improved ride quality' as a softer ride then coilovers are not for you.
I changed to coilovers to lower the car, improve the handling and get rid ot the 'floaty boat' suspension. Its firmer than stock even on the softest setting.
I have since changed up to air with Accuair iLevel so that I can raise the car to clear ramps and speed bumps at the touch of a button, but not to soften the ride.

Cheers
Steve

WILL44 it right on the money with his reply. The design of the suspension on our care is kind of set in stone. Short of totally changing the design there is only so much you can do. Perhaps a mid 60's Cadillac is more your speed. Just kidding, I would'nt wish that on you.
