Default Engine, VSC light came on.. any ideas?

Hi guys,

so I went on a little trip about 500 km away.. when i got there everything was normal.. next day while hanging with my buddies my Engine light, VSC and VSC OFF light came on.. I wasn't pushing the car or anything, driving normal and going around 120 to 135 kph on hwy there. Usually people would panic but in the past I have had cars that got these lights and usually its just a sensor. As im not familiar with japenese cars what would you guys think it is?

I mean the car drives perfectly normal, i have driven it 900 km after the light, the temperature doesnt rise, there is no leakes anywhere, there is no smell, engine oil is all there, everything seems perfectly fine. I read a few threads referring to the oxygen sensor? im thinking of getting that replaced.. how many are there that I would have to change? if any one would know? also someone mentioned ABS sensor in another thread.. not sure what that has to do with the engine, i mean ABS has its own light right?

if any ideas please do share thanks for the help in advance!

02 sensors are prime suspects (use the search function - there are all sorts of threads on this). Get a code reader on the car for a little more info and go from there. Some of the threads note the codes that were thrown, etc

there are 4 sensors, btw. 2 upstream, 2 downstream (of cat converter) for each exhaust downpipe off the manifolds (before they merge to a common exhaust pipe). good pictures here:

Get an ODB2 scanner on line $50-$60 or so and you can just scan it yourself..

My engine light, VSC and VSC off came on too. When I checked my gas cap it was loose so I ran finger around the gasket on the gas cap and tightened it. Engine light, VSC and VSC off turned off. I went to the dealer to have something else done and the service tech told me that the VSC etc lights were on and he told me he would check and see what it was for $100.00 and I laughed at him. I said it was the gas cap and he said he would replace it for $50.00. I laughed at him again. I bought one online at Sewell for $6.00 and did it myself. Problem solved.

so this is the code i got:

"
P0031 - Oxygen (A/F) Sensor Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

A P0031 DTC (diagnostic trouble code) refers to the O2 sensor (oxygen sensor) located on Bank 1 in front of the catalytic converter

"

Im wondering if this is an easy DIY (any link?) or should I just get a mechanic to do it? what do you guys think?

With the right tools it is fairly easy to replace that O2 sensor. You will have to get at it from
underneath the car, so a lift would be nice. You will have to remove the lower, rear engine
cover to access the sensor. Because of the wires, they make special sockets that allow you
to remove the sensor. The sensors' connector does not go into the cabin like the rear O2
sensor ( it connects into the engine harness ) so that makes the job easier.

I recall some threads here that provide part numbers and suppliers for more cost-effective ways to get the OEM sensors and connectors.

Here's a thread:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...or-issues.html

and another relevant thread:

and another:

If you have the back sensors out there are threads showing the nasty location of the connectors inside the cabin! I won't post those here since the OP is concerned with the front O2s.

Helpful links thankyou Kelly!

so Lexus dealer quoted me 400$ for the part and same on ebay for $200... a mechanic said go with denso which he can get me for $300 and thats a rip off. Then I checked ebay and there are denso OE sensors ranging from 60 to 130$. but didnt know which one to go with, plus I didn't trust it as there were so many different prices for the same part.

I need it right away so I went to part source and they gave me NGK NTK 24560 (upstream left, driver side) for 146.89$ total. Im sure I probably could have found this cheaper but I do not have time. Other then that the partsource guy claimed that majority of sellers on ebay are selling ones from china claiming they are densos, ngks, bosch's, or OEMS with the brand stickers/part numbers. He says they end up crapping out in a year or so. But i guess your safe if you buy from a very high rated seller..

anyhow I shall take the car in tomorrow and let you guys know what happens

thanks everyone!
