What's your range approx. per full tank?

After ten years I am still not sure where the dash readout of "range" gets its data.
It always grossly understates the range, probably by design.
If you really want to know what the range is, just use the tank capacity (just under 20 gal) and the mpg numbers that you have calculated (here the cars readout is very accurate). Your range in the city, of course, will be different from the range you can expect on an expressway road trip, as mpg numbers will vary from about 16 to 24.
And, of course, the car has no idea of what roads you will be on or your speed.
Generally, I figure I could go about 400 miles on a full tank, but it's an academic exercise as you would not prudently let the tank get too much below the one-quarter mark before filling up (and emptying out).
