I have a 2002 SC430 with parking sensors in the rear and front.
The system is now beeping/barking from time to time, and sometime constantly....extremely irritating!
First of all, anyone who knows where the fuses for parking sensors are placed?
Second, how difficult is it to replace/loosen the sensor to start troubleshooting?

 

First of all, welcome to the forum.

With regards to the sensors, parking sensors were not standard equipment here in the US, especially not in 2002. Were they standard there in Sweden? I'm guessing that yours could be an aftermarket addition. That being the case, there is no telling what they are hooked up to. (I agree, that beeping would be extremely annoying.) Does it beep even when you are stationery? I don't know what controls those alarms but if it is the engine ECU, then you might try resetting it. (More than likely the parking sensors are completely separate from the ECU and either they have a bad connection somewhere or something has gone bad.)

If you want to reset the ECU without losing your seat and stereo settings, perform the following procedure:


1. Get in your car and insert key. (It doesn't matter if you close the door or not.)

2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position.

3. Press the gas pedal to the floor.

4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.

5. Wait 2 minutes.

6. Remove key.

7. Done

It´s a pleasure being in the forum, I already learned a lot about the SC.

I realizes when reading in the forum that parking sensors seems to be something we have on SC´s here in europe. I don´t think these are aftermarket addition, they look and sound exactly like the systems I have in my other two Toyotas.
It beeps not so often when I am stationery as when I am driving. The beeping seems to intensify when it´s raining and therefore I assume it can be a sensor failure or as you mentioned a bad connection.
But first of all....I need to get the beeping to stop :-)

Resetting the ECU? Will that also affect other settings for the motor and more...?
Is there any risk by performing the resetting?

 

It seems in Europe they are an DEALER add on or aftermarket add on so they could be connected anywhere. You may have to trace the wire from the bumper sensors. Seems others have had problems too... http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/for...howtopic=23828

 

No risk in resetting the ECU. A lot of us do it every now and then to get rid of the pesky accelerator pedal delay. But I really would be surprised if it has any effect on your sensor issue.

The irritating delay is another object I had in mind for the forum...but now I will try the resetting first. Thanks!

Will take a closer look at the sensors, fuses and wiring today and see if I can find something of interest.

 

Do you have this display unit inside your sc on the dashboard area?

If so, those parking sensors on you f/r bumpers are 100% OEM and optional accessories from Lexus Japan.

 

I have no display unit at all, just sound alarm.
The beeping sounding exactly like on my other Toyotas.
Sensors look like the ones on my toyota and are painted in the same color as the rest of the car.

I have contacted Lexus europe to see if they can help me.

 

If it is an aftermarket add on, then it will be a stand alone unit and should be safe to remove.
You are not going to find any Lexus fuse reserved for it.

I would just remove it and install a new aftermarket one.
BTW, the OEM one costs like $800.

 

Absolutely, you are right!
BUT I would soonest like to identify the fuse, just to get the beeping to stop.
Or find the buzzer and kill it!
Then I can do a trouble shooting or as you say, just replace it.

 

I'm glad it made a difference in the performance. It is a nice little trick to have in your tool box!

That is a user's option/preference. It won't hurt anything and will likely make your car more responsive. It won't hurt if you don't also though.

I have rear parking sensors on my SC and as far as I am aware they were OEM in the UK. I have no display just an increasing 'beep' the closer you get to another vehicle, wall etc.
Can't help you with fuse location, sorry.
