Default Disabling seatbelt chime on a 2008 SC430

I just successfully turned off the seatbelt chime in my 2008 SC430 and here is how I did it. There was a slight change in the directions I read a few different times on this forum. The main difference is holding both the trip reset button and the trip button during the procedure.

1. turn the key to the ON position, foot off the brake
2. cycle the odometer with the trip button until the ODO is displayed (not trip A or B )
3. turn the ignition to the LOCK (OFF) position
4. unbuckle the driver's seatbelt if it was buckled.
5. turn the key to the ON position. when the dash lights have come on, press and hold the trip reset button and the TRIP BUTTON and count a slow 12 seconds. (editor's note, hold it more like 30 sec)
6. while still holding the trip reset button and TRIP BUTTON, buckle the driver's side seatbelt.
7. the odometer display should read "b ON" or "b OFF". toggle the beep OFF with the TRIP BUTTON.
8. the process should be completed when you unbuckle or turn the key off

To turn on again just simply repeat process and make appropriate selection at step 7.

Be patient and you too will have SUCCESS!

Very cool.

Do we know what Model Year range this works in?

For example...say, a 2003?

The previous owner of my 2002 turned it off so I know it can be done on the early models. Just another thing I like about my car.

Works in an 06. Does not seem to disable the initial chime. Took me several attempts. I think the button press in step five needs to happen pretty quick and 30 seconds might be too long. The seat belt icon flashes every second if you want an accurate count.

I’ll try it on our 07 this weekend. I hate that chime.

I actually want to enable it - to stop my wife unbuckling it when she has a strop !

I looked it up.....for all us Yankees, a strop is a tantrum.

Whoops, sorry about that - I forgot we are two countries separated by a common language !!

Yes 'strop' is a tantrum - often induced on a 28-day cycle or by something that I've apparently done but have no actual idea what it is.

I'm a bit of a stickler for keeping to the law and in the UK its illegal (financial penalty and points on license) not to wear a seatbelt - so an easy pullover for the police if they spot someone.

This stunt has been pulled many times by 'er indoors' and the chime would be a great way to stop the strop

Can I to assume that the process also takes care of the passenger seat chime?

I would disable mine if the seatbelt chimes when someone in the backseat doesn't wear the seatbelt...

Oh yeah... no one sits back there
