Default Your first 'hot rod'

Hi All

I have thought about asking this for a while. A totally non Lexus topic, but I would love to see pictures of your first modded cars.
I hope the moderators do not opject.
This was mine (don't laugh), a 1959 BMC Morris Minor.
The pictures were taken in 1970 and the lovely lass became and still is my wife.

The car was lowered onto the bump stops (pretty uncomfortable, but looked good), had the wheels banded to a massive 5" lol, rolled the arches etc etc.
Probably where my love of convertibles started.

Best regards

Steve

No way Will, I only play at it. You are the BOSS in my eyes.

I assumed they were dating when the picture was taken in 1970. Maybe I was wrong and they were married.

That Morris Minor is sweet! Rollin' on deep dish white wheels before all these other guys haha

I guess this would be my first 'hot rod', took a few years to get it done.

You are right Barncat, we were engaged and then married in 71.
Wasn't too many years after that when we had to change up to 'sensible' cars when the ankle tappers came along......lol

Great Z3NK1, thanks for the picture.
So you were actually racing the car (what is it?) and what year is it taken?

Best regards
Steve

Great that you are still with your first love Barncat, but I bet you wish you still had the 58 and 68 Porsche's as well. lol

I'd throw it around the track occasionally, but I mostly used it for picking on unsuspecting cars on the highways haha. It's an '89 Nissan 240sx, bought it stock with a blown motor then spent 3 years dumping money into it. Pic was taken 2005 I think, not as oldschool as yours but it was my first real project car.

I was actually telling my dad (also from UK) about my 3.76 diff and how it goes through the gears quicker etc. and he mentioned he also had a Morris back in the day that did the same thing, really fast up to 60mph then it ran out. I then mentioned your Minor and he got all nostalgic hah

Bound to be some other guys with old projects to post!

Great story Z3NK1, good to here that your Dad had a Minor. I fitted the diff from a Minor Van that improved the acceleration, but ruined the top speed, about 65 flat out. Later I fitted a MGA 1600 cc engine with a aluminium cross flow head etc etc and then it used to wheel spin in 1st and 2nd but chewed up the half shafts if I dropped the clutch to quick.

I hope we get some more pictures from other members.

Best regards
Steve

I'll have to look around. Mine will probably be black and white photos. Color shots were too expensive back then. lol
