Weird tyre noise
Hi all,
Brand new to this forum. Have owned 2 SC so far a 2003 and now a 2008.
Recently, I keep hearing a audible "wooonging" sound coming for the front wheels. I sounds like I have a flat or something, especially when I am slowing down.
Anyone experienced this before? The tyres are still in pretty good condition.
Pls advise. Cheers!

Mine are normal after market ones. We don't get them RFT over here in SIngapore sadly.
I'm kinda worried that it is deeper then just the tyre, but the bearings or something else.
Send it to the my workshop and they cannot seem to find anything wrong.

It could be many things, of which it will be quite difficult to describe the sounds.
It could still be flat spots on your tires. If you don't drive your car for long periods of time (days), they can develop flat spots, regardless of whether they are run flats or standard tires. However, the flat spots typically go away after driving for a while. (15 minutes?)
It could be bearings, but once again, I don't know how to describe that in words that will translate to sounds.
It could also be brakes that aren't disengaging and possibly a warped disc.
I'd suggest finding a good, reputable mechanic that you can trust and see if he can track it down.
Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Datok1, did not realize there were many people from the lil red dot on this forum. Will PM you to make contact. Was from there a long time ago. But anyway, my experience with RFTs ( Pirelli P Zero Nero ) on my SC proved to me that a wierd scratching rubbing sound I was hearing had to do with the RFT tires reaching about 18-20K miles of use and becoming pretty loud. My front left tire sounded like something was rubbing against something else ( possibly like a brake caliper not disengaging fully ) and the sound would be more pronounced when I was driving slow. When I sped up, it would go away. Then, when I changed tires and rims, the sound went away. Yet an inspection of the original left front tire showed nothing wrong except it was probably due for replacement within 5K miles.
Conclusion: RFT's in their last few months of useful life make disturbing noises.
What brand and make are your non RFTs ?

HI all,
It was indeed the tyres that were making the noise, strange as they still look very new with good threads.
Looks like Im gonna have to find myself a set.
An recommendations out there?

I would recommend any high performance all season tires that are name brands, nothing that you haven't heard of before. Michelin, Continental, Bridgestone, Yokohama, or Goodyear. Of course I don't know what size of wheels you have now, so the choice is yours. Good luck.
Datok can probably use summer tires cos where he is from, its just rain and fierce sunshine, nothing in between, and he never needs to be concerned about snow or frost. Sort of like South Florida weather.
Datok: I'd be thinking about Michelin Pilot Sport at the top end and at a more economic price point, the Falken 452s are probably a fair value. I think Stamford Tyre used to be the agent for Falken in SG. Also, depending on how its priced in SG, many people on this forum have had a good experience with Hankook Ventus V12 ( not the V4 - you will not need them cos the V4 is an all season ).
