Default Air intakes

Many of you have asked the question, what air intake should I buy? So out of a heated discussion with a few Lexus aficionados about what air intake sounds better, gives you better gas mileage, better horse power and looks good, we decided to install them in our cars. We searched the SC forum and found that only two companies make air intakes for our cars, 1) Injen around $200 (see picture) 2)Weapon R - secret weapon around $237 (see picture) and Weapon R- Dragon around $195 got it on sale for $126 delivered (see picture #3). Here is the fun part...we installed the parts(2002 SC Injen and both 2003 SC's with the weapons R) and performed a non-scientific 3 week test. RESULTS: All three continue to give us the same gas mileage per tank (300-325) Horse power- we all think our car is faster but we are too chicken to race so we will leave that one alone... In all three the engine bay looks better, not as cluttered. Sound- now this is the main reason we all got intakes, it makes the car sound much better. We do agree that the Weapons R- secret weapon (picture #2) has a little deeper sound that we all like. So in conclusion, they are all easy to install (with instructions) taking us about 45min per car and if you are just looking for a sound upgrade then any of the intakes will do the job. Have fun with all modifications!

I really think, with all other factors the same, that you guys really should do just a quick quarter mile to do a very non scientific check of what is faster. If you really want to get serious, get each car the same tire pressure, same gas with the same amount in the tank, and no excess weight in the car. That would really be a deciding factor for me, and others, I would guess.

Best way...same car on same dyno with the same atmospheric conditions swapping intakes from stock (baseline) and allowing sufficient cool down times inbetween runs.

However I don't think that there will be much difference between the three and the WHP/WTQ increases will be nominal at best. From a sound standpoint it is worth the money if you want increased noise.

The problem is the potential loss of hp and/or torque due to the hot air in the engine bay, and the less efficient air filter letting more particles get into engine.

The Injen Intake does wonders with the GROWL! It is awesome.
