Default 20" Rim Beware

for those of you considering 20s I hope this is a little help. I started out with pie plates and wanted a better rim. After a lot of research I went with the EXE shown at bottom. The combination of low profile tires, 20" rims, and a heavier rim, really takes away from the quality of the ride. They did not ride terrible, but were stiff, and had some vibration. I just did not feel comfortable on long trips at 80 mph sometimes the vibration was barely noticeable some days annoying. With OEM wheels, perfect ride and +3 mpg hyway. Not really fair to compare the falkins To michellin I just put on, but my car now rides like my LS. Do yourselves a favor, if you have to go aftermarket, stay at 18" and use a standard non run flat tires. The michelins feel great.

Below new rim 08 OEM with sensors. $600 craigslist
Michelin Proximy 207$ each after $70 rebate 50$ gift card Tire kingdom 0% 18 months no interest
65k mile tread warranty,(most tires last 15k miles) rated perfect 10 on tire rack

I would say cost (and quality) is probably a factor. My Work Ryver DT3s were actually a lot lighter than stock wheels (if I had to guess, I'd say abut 10 lbs. lighter per wheel). The handling was far better than stock. And I never had any issues with vibrations. I went as fast as 145 once (my foot accidently got stuck on the accelerator) and it felt like I was riding on rails. The only real downside is you are riding on less air, so you feel more bumps in the road. But I'm ok with that.

How about light 19s like Volk racing wheels? Would they be bad too? I always worry about this which is what keeps me away from pulling the trigger

If you go with a nice JDM brand or a forged wheel you wont have any problems. I have work wheels as well and no vibrations or problems. As long as they have hubrings or there hubcentric and not made in china cast junk you should be fine.

+1 all posts...

Many inexpensive aftermarket 20" wheels have hub centric, weight and quality issues that more expensive luxurious 20" wheels don't. I'm not willing to pay $4k or even $3k for wheels alone plus another grand for tires because I trade cars and wheels too often. I understand now, that it's a trade off like everything else. You have to pay to play!

19's still give some vibration and wobble especially less expensive ones.

For a spider-mesh junkie like me, in retrospect I should have gotten the g-spiders in chrome and then got some spacers to bump them out a little. But then again, OEM spiders in chrome and I could have probably got a more expensive set of aftermarket 20's

All in all, the 20" look is incredible, the staggered look is awesome and IMO handling is so much better. For those of us with drops, it's almost a MUST to have big wheels.

Kaiser-It's funny you posted this because I'm wobblin like crazy right now...haven't been balanced since around Dec and obviously I am WAY out of sync! 45-60mph it's like constant steering wheel wobbling then after 60 it's perfect and under 45 perfect. Weird!!

I had same problems with my 20"s and 22"s on SUV's as well as my last SC with 19's. It's gotta be the wheels!

So the lighter the wheel, less wobbling????

Aren't Sevas known for their bad quality? I think they are out of business too.

I think it has more to do with precise machining than weight.

My wheels don't wobble. The balance has to be super precise for this car. A bus just hit my car weds and i dont even have a wobble with my 19" wheels.. Sure my steering wheels pointed at 10 o clock.. But no wobble.. Lol and they ride great. Tires play a very important roll for ride quality as well.

Like most things, you get what you pay for with wheels and tires. I put staggered Foose 20's and Nitto's on in place of the stock wheels with Pirelli's and have never looked back. Ride is much better than stock ever, ever was. Smooth as silk. Will never go back. Yeah I'm into it for over $3K but I've learned along the way that cheap is exactly that.....

19 and 20" owners under $2500 for rims...do you wobble?
