Default SC430 Speaker Sizes

Hi everyone,

I am in the process of buying my first SC430 but I am no stranger to Lexus.

It's a 2002 and the ML speakers are pretty much shot.

Can anyone tell me the actual size replacements required for:
  • Door Tweeter
  • Door Mid Range
  • Door Speaker (6 x 5")?
  • Rear Speaker

All help greatly appreciated and if anyone has any suggestions as to brand (Pioneer, Sony etc). Greatly appreciated.

Thanks from Down Under

If you search this forum for the word "zgone" you will find a lot of threads with information regarding the SC430 audio system, including the speaker information. A big take-away is that the ML speakers aren't the conventional 4-ohm impedance usually found in cars. They're either 8- or 16-ohms, making the selection MUCH more limited for replacements but there are a few candidates. Some of us have done foam repairs that have been effective and very inexpensive. If you're a DIY type this is an option. You can also get car audio shops to do repairs although their first inclination may be to sell you something new.

Based upon list price, two new ML 6 x 9 speakers for the door panels are over $500 and the subwoofer is around $400, so if you haven't pulled the trigger on that deal you may have some bargaining leverage.

I'm sure you'll hear from other members with valuable ideas regarding the audio system. There's no shortage of opinion on this aspect of the SC430.

Yes, it's true there are a whole slew of threads on the shortcomings of the ML speakers, and it is worth the time to search them out and educate yourself. Nevertheless, since I'm not too busy this morning here's the speaker chart:

Thanks everyone!! Really appreciated. Any suggestions on suitable replacement brands? I don't expect there is much difference between the ML speakers and other quality brands.

BTW. I have already used the short speakers to bring down the price.

ML speakers are discounted through Sewell. At least they are plug and play.

Yes and I have been quoted better prices here in Oz! I will admit that is unusual.

Default Max depth for front door speakers

Hi, I've been digging through this site for a while, but haven't been able to figure out the max mounting depth for the front speakers.

These are 8ohm, but look like they might be tight at 3.43". Does anyone know what the max mounting depth for the front door speakers are?

Thanks,
Adam

hi Adam and Welcome to ClubLexus!

there are several on here who have gone to aftermarket woofers in the doors.
are your speakers blown?
if that is the case, for $25, you can replace the foam and the speakers will sound great again.
i purchased from both of these vendors and both foam kits are awesome.

here is another speaker thread.
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...old-6x9-s.html

i am no Audiophile, I just enjoy my 80s hair bands music cranked up or talk radio.

BUT, there are plenty of very smart folks here who know many things about systems, impedance vs ohms, speaker depths, what fits, etc.

i hope they chime in and share their knowledge... ;-)
