Default DIY Side markers installation

This is how I installed the side markers…

1- Measure the side marker and make a drawing or template of the opening required. I used AutoCad. Then, I printed the template on self adhesive printer paper.

These side parkers clip in the opening, so before cutting through the fender, it is a good idea to make a trial opening in a piece of sheet metal to see if the side marker clips in correctly adjust the opening as required.

2- I used pin striping tape to make a line between the fender’s top arches and the perpendicular lines to locate the center of the cutout.

3- Apply the template to the body and mask surrounding area with 4” of duct tape to prevent damaging the paint with the jigsaw shoe.

4- Drill the corner holes and a bigger hole for the jigsaw blade to go in.

5- Cut the opening with the jigsaw (use a small tooth metal blade), and adjust to the template with a file. Try fitting the side marker often to make sure you’re not making the opening too big! Don’t forget to paint the edges of the opening to prevent rust.

6- Since I didn’t have a connector for the side marker, I soldered two wires to the terminals and waterproofed with some silicone. Make sure the wires are long enough to reach the front headlight assembly and route the wire in the fender.

7- You’ll need to remove the front bumper to remove the headlights… Then, connect the wires to the flasher wires (Gray connector).

Voilŕ!

You are the man! You beat me to this DIY. You had to open up the wheel well cover to route your wiring to the front headlight right?

I was scoping the wiring route and I thought there was a place to fish the wire without removing the headlight.

Routing the wire could probably be done by removing only the fender trim and "stuffing" the wire behind the wheel well liner but connecting the wires to the flasher without removing the headlight assembly would be difficult I think...

How do you replace the bulb on the signal light? That where I intended to tap into. I have not really looked at this carefully but I have been scoping side markers to use. The Soarer in Japan used a marker similar to the Scion Xa or Xb (2004~2006) hence that's what I was planning on getting.

Here's my RX DIY on the marker (I did this in 2009 and have not posted in the RX forum, I simply forgot).

I used a Dremel to cut out the sheet metal.

This side repeater is the exact one used by JDM, made by Koito. I bought this set in Japan while on a business trip.

I like the ones you got. I was looking at the Soarer and it had similar ones like the ones I put on the RX.

But I like yours. They are sleek and stylish.

do you think those fender sidemarkers will cover the hole on the sidemarkers on the front bumper?

If you can find a side repeater that is bigger than the side markers. I know what you are thinking.
