Donsmith what kinda of sub did you purchase? The mountin depth of my 8" kicker is a about four inches.. Will i need a spacer to install this? The magnet is about 5-6 inches in diameter

Ive been lazy to take the back seat out and covers in the trunk and just wanna be prepared

I replaced mine with a Polk Audio Sub and outboard amp. 4" mounting depth. No spacer needed. Fits stock ring perfectly.

i'm sure the mounting depth will fit but how big was your magnet? he stated the magnet diameter was the issue right?

The sub replacement I purchased was this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=330445476837 I have since returned this one and decided to rebuild the stock sub, which I'm now pleased with. The reason the magnet diameter is the problem is because if you use the stock location/hole, towards the bottom of the opening is metal support for something. I wish I took a picture when I had everything apart. But really, it only takes about 10 minutes to have the entire back seat out, you don't need to do anything in the trunk area (unless you're replacing amps), it's really easy.

I love Polk...great sounding speakers!

Long term plans for Ebony if I keep her is to replace all my speakers too...

Polk and JL Audio for the price make some of the best speakers in the world!

I would do Polk or JL sub, boston acoustic small rounds (tweets), for the larger ones on the upper door I would do Polk's 2.5" round and the door speakers nothing beats infiniti kappa in that size...years of market leading sound is hard to top-and for the price too...think the model # is 6832 8ohm hard to find-I think Alpine and Pioneer make some too, but might be too deep. Finally rear speakers JL audio which in that size sound like 6x9's!!!

I had a similar setup years ago in a couple of cars except 4ohm. One was my mazda rx-7 and I was able to fit about the same size of those little round speakers by the mirror in place of the tiny headrest speakers mazda put stock...WOW!!! Four headrest speaker for highs were amazing with the top down while they were tweeting in your ears!

I priced out the above setup for me (eBay mainly) and it would run $2-$2500 to do it right. All the above speakers would be the right depth and size too, which I prefer--clean installs only!

This is a MUST read for those of you tempted to tinker with SC speakers:

I took some pictures that may help show the subwoofer size and space available.

Trunk with all the liner removed showing subwoofer (plenty of space all around except the bottom)

Subwoofer comparison - depth is the same, but the difference is the diameter of the magnet (on the left: one I bought that doesn't fit; on the right: stock)

I installed a 8" Rockford Fosgate in mine, build an approx. 1 cu.ft enclosure in the trunk behind it.... Hardwood ply mounting ring.... Removed the flimzy plastic ring and grille that vibrates like crazy.... "Fat-Matted" the bulkhead.... Got TONS of vidration free bass now!

Right on, I was curious if anyone had ever built a little box that worked with the stock mounting spot. Is it toally hidden behind the trunk carpet?

I've got some plans for something similar drawn up, just need to confirm a few more dimensions.

Here's a pic of the box I built... It's a little under 1 cu.ft. but it's much better than no box at all!

Here it is with the custom trim panel... Too bad I could not find lite gray carpet to match. But I'm still happy with the result.

My last step.... Installing the 7" NavsGo GPS in the OEM location with an interface with the radio via a custom built "mute generator". I also fabricated a "resistor based" circuit to replace the one in the steering wheel remote to be able to control the radio via a SWIJACK.
