Derek, it is possible that the person placing the brochure on your windshield made the scratch without realizing it. If he had a rough beltbuckle or keys hanging off the side of his pants/belt or brads on his blue jeans, or something else like that, he very well could have scratched the paint when he leaned over the side to place the brochure.

Good luck with the repair.

Sorry to read about that SCDROPTOP. That really sucks. I know how you take care of your cars and it pisses me off too. You'll get it fixed to the point you'll not be able to notice it. Using Scratch X......just don't rub too hard as it will take the clear coat off. I use it quite often and had to learn the tolarance of using pressure with it.

good luck,

Default Update with Pics...I'm 85-90% happy. Scratch is 85%-90% gone

Here are pics today of Ebony after I did about a 25 step hand process of buffing the scratch out.

Here's what I did:

Meguires cleaner wax
3M rubbing compound
Polish/wax with Zaino pink and purple

Scratch started to disappear a little, but I wanted it to go all away.

Bought Nu Finish Compound-nothing happened. Returned it for Turtle Wax Rubbing compound (cheapest on the market, but VERY harsh!!!)

Rubbed the clear coat practically off and scratched a little.

While I was here, I said what the hell and wet sanded a little.

Now I was left with a filled scratch, barely noticeable with a dull, swirled spot on my fender!!! GREAT!!!

Thank got for Zaino products...re-polished the heck out of it about 7-8 times and still working on it. 85-90% gone with NO paint work involved whatsoever!!!!!

Next step-professional buffing per my detail post I started. This should be the final step to get me back to base.

I was so happy that I decorated my house even more for Christmas!!! Just kidding...check out this amazing pic from a house down the street. Wow! Hebron/Marsh area in Carrollton for the folks in Dallas area.

I wasn't able to tell where the scratch WAS at because of the reflections Man, that sure is a fine looking SC. A beautiful car!

I had a small scratch on my front fender and used Scratch X a little much so bought some clear coat and made it pretty much un-noticeable. You've done a good job. And, that house looks great too. Must be in a nice neighborhood.

Is that a reflection of Saturn in the bumper or the swirl marks from removing??

BTW an absolutely beautiful car!

Great job Derek!

My only fear pf getting a 05 PB is not being able to match the paint.same goes for any of the metalics with all the colors in them. So pretty to look at..a nightmare to match.

Thanks everyone. Sorry about the bad angles. Tried to move my big rear out of the pics so you all could just see the car. I'm going on six weeks since a wash! It's really dirty, seriously. Thanks for the compliments.

The scratch was to the immediate left of where the tree is in the reflection of the fender.

The "saturn" looking (lol) rainbow was not swirl marks thank God...just the sun setting in the reflection of the window that was reflecting off the quarter panel as it was around 4:30 when I took the pic.

Maybe these two pics side by side will help...

Before and after...try to find it. You really can't unless you go upside down, sideways, get out a 1000W fluorescent light, etc etc.

Still needs a complete detail, wax, polish, buff, and paint correction swirl remover all over the car.

I was scared to death to paint it-what a nightmare to do a triple black diamond pearl color with blue, silver and green flecks in the paint! No way!

when did you use the Meguiars cleaner wax? Also, was it this Z-5 Zaino product for the polish/wax: 0 . I also have a scratch, and your results are great!

I used Meguires as a first line-started with the mildest agents and worked up.

3M rubbing compound did most of the work and smoothed it out a lot

I used the Zaino purple and pink polishes a lot to keep the shine

Turtle Wax rubbing compound was the harshest but worked nicely in filling the line!

This was a very deep scratch and I'm a little amazed at myself honestly.

Just keep up with the wax touch up every now and then. I like your rims!
