Default Replacing Speakers - will these fit?

I have searched throughout the SC430 forum and can not find the maximum depth of the 6x9 speaker that will fit in our door. And replacing the ML speakers with another set of ML speakers makes no sense to me whatsoever. And I need something to do while on vacation on the last week of December!
Your feedback is valued and appreciated.

So, I have been trolling the internet and found these:

I know I would have to purchase the 6x9 adapter to install these:

In your research of the other posts, did you also read that you will have to change out the amp and other components with a speaker other than a ML brand? It is not that simple to just drop another set of speakers that fit in there.

So, if I find 8ohm speakers to replace the ML speakers, I would still have to replace the amp?

No, if the speakers you find are 8 ohm, you are fine. It is virtually impossible to find 6 x9 8 ohm speakers. If you find some please let us know.

8 ohm speakers are quite common, just not in car audio. They're plentiful in home audio, though.
There was a thread a few years ago, that somebody found a home audio replacement speaker that was 8 ohms, and the correct depth - I think it was less than 3" deep?
It was a round speaker, possibly 5" and he made a wooden adaptor to go from the 6X9 to the round, and I recall him being very pleased with it.
Look in home audio, not car audio, for 8 ohm stuff.

Any 8 ohm speaker probably will work fine in your SC430 ML system as long as sound quality is a secondary consideration. The 8 ohm impedance of a replacement only means it's electrically compatible with the amplifier and you are unlikely to hurt anything by using it. But the sound may not be what you expect or want. A lot of folks on this forum don't have the highest regard for the ML system and I am one of them. The quality of the speaker materials may not be the best and the control head is a bit trouble prone. However, the components ARE matched for reasonably decent sound reproduction when everything is working well. So on that basis it does make some sense to replace like with like - providing that you are OK with the original factory performance . It also may make sense for you to repair the speakers you have. To keep the cost way down I put new foam surrounds in mine and a number of others here have as well, with very good results. There are some posts here that give more information and sources for buying re-foam kits and speaker repair services. Might look into that if you're looking for a fairly satisfying project that doesn't empty your wallet.

srqmark,
the information you want about speaker depth is not in the SC430 forum section. It is in the Lexus Audio, Video, Security section of the main forum page. Down toward the bottom.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/lex...lectronics-12/

Search there and you'll find all you want on speaker replacement options.

Good Luck!

Thank you all for your replies. I have searched the audio and video threads and found the information I was looking for.

I think I have found 6x9 8ohm replacements that would fit the doors that require a 3" mounting depth. (thanks tfeni52355!)

Those appear to be sub woofers, not full range speakers. I would not use them in the doors without more information.
