so my trunk release wont work unless I press the valet switch in the glove box, I used to use the manual trunk release all the time but someone (mechanic had a bunch of garbage like pens and things going into where the manual pull tab goes) now it wont work, I went from never using the trunk release switch and using the one even if the battery is dead, it doesn't have the same snap as before, i don't want to pull it and break it completely... any ideas???

Hey @syphered If I read your post right, you have two issues.
Issue #1 is the trunk release button doesn't work unless you press the valet button
Issue #2 when you use the manual release, the cable seems sloppy.

Is that correct?
#1
since the trunk works when you push the valet button, I would guess it is a module issue. Is there anything else not working on your car? Does the alarm seem to be ok? What about the ABS light, is it on?
You may also want to see if you can use your key fob to release your trunk while you are standing next to it. You should hear a pop, but your trunk probably won't move. My guess is your trunk struts are so shot, they don't lift the trunk at all and the weight of the trunk causes it to re-latch itself
#2
I think your next step would be to take t he carpet out of the back of your trunk. The one that is on the rear bumper wall. It is not too hard to do. You should be able to see the latch. My guess is it is not springing back into place.

Here is a listing on ebay. I am not recommending you buy it, but you can look at the pictures and maybe see what the problem is

You confused me. The button in the glove box inhibits the trunk operation when it's OFF (pushed in). So if it ON and the trunk release button works, then it's normal. What's the problem?

i still have this god awful viper alarm which you cant even start the car with out so no trunk button there...yeah one day i dropped the top and i seemed to not be able to open the trunk with the cable in glove box, and yes for some reason that valet switch prevents many functions on my car like dropping the top, or opening the trunk with the switch, I dunno who wired this thing but i would love to ring their neck. so yeah also a pen or piece of trash could have gotten where the cable pulls from, yeah it used to have this hard tug and walla open now its just a pull and pull and i dont want to brake it. thankfully my mechanic used to work at Lexus and while he refuses to do my rear hub bearing, he says its a lot of work. he can engine and tranny swap this thing in a weekend and has all the tools, he also assures me that he can remove the alarm which is my ultimate goal..

Also there is an emergency release in the trunk. It is possible is is not in place, making the glove compartment pull feel weird
