Default took a quick 1000 mile drive Friday

Out of D.C. back to Miami, a snow storm predicted of up to 24 inches, I took the Lucky Bastard out for a little drive of about 1300 miles. Starting point was actually Baltimore, and when the snow started to fall, I pushed past. As of 2pm all flights out of DC were canceled, and the trains stopped running an hour later. My average MPG for the trip was 24.8 MPG. Top speed hit 140 MPH. Driving time 26 hours, 45 minutes door to door. Took a couple of naps on the way, but of the most part, a straight run. For those who think this thing could just carry golf clubs, I had a 27" IMAC in the back seat, 4 Laptops, 3 Full size boxes of files, and enough clothes and stuff to fill 6 garbage bags, (lugage takes up too much space). Bad news is I could not put the top down with the trunk full, but other than that my eight year old time machine gave me a Lexus comfortable ride. Tomorrow morning I go to the detail shop and get all that salt and road off my prize possession. I think I could of had it within 24 hours if it was not for all the superbowl fans filling the roads. Time to change my profile back to Florida...

1,300 miles? Wow. I've always wanted to take a drive like that....drive out west to California.

I guess the only question now is.....how's your prostate?

Wow, great story !! Your 24.8 mpg is good news, what kind of gas did you purchase, Shell? At what point on I95 did you open it up ? Keep up the great work with the Lucky Bastard !

Er, um, well,

I used the black trash bags from Costco. I could not get my bags to fit well in the space of the trunk. Not too classy I know, but that little SC carried an amazing amount of stuff. I can't get over that I fit a 27" IMAC inside, in a huge box, and could have tossed in a second if I had to, without taking down the roof.

Without the run flats, my SC is almost as smooth as our LS on good pavement. Not a bad choice for a cross country run. Once I passed Orlando I hit a stretch of road, which was wide open except for two cars, a VW Passat, and a Avalon that kept changing lanes and getting in front of me, forcing me to shut off the cruise control. I blew past them a few times, but they kept catching up, and doing it again. I was going to pull over and give them some distance, but I was bored, and I had the Killers pumping through my ML, so I blew past the 140 mark for a few minutes and never saw them again. At 140 the car felt like it was not even close to done.

I bet that woke you up.

Doesn't get any better than this. You'll always remember this road trip.

i just did 1,400 miles a few months ago. did it in a little over 22 hours. would have been faster, but i hit snow in colorado and slowed to a crawl. if i had to do it again, i'd probably break it into two days.

KaiserSea1,
How did the car perform in the snow? I was under the impression the SC was not
very good in the white stuff. Did you slip and slide more than you would have in your LS?

Blessings,
Brian

Even if he did have his "jammies", he put those other to bed. Also he probably had his glock and rolex with him under his leather coat. Had to look nice carrying his "matching" luggage.

Thanks Brian, my car is horrible in snow, I think that little button on the dash just makes people in Japan laugh. To be fair, my tires are at 25%. Every time I got off the road, and drove over some packed down snow and Ice, I went sideways. Coming from a Subaru SVX, Acura MDX, and Rav4, which were all great in the white stuff, I would say my SC is the worst I have owned by far in snow. I have never had the LS in the snow, but with the new Generals I put on it that won the CR best tire, I think it would do much better.

Pretty close, sweats, a Saints shirt (LSU LAW GRAD Go Tigers), and sandles with no socks. I have been in law enforcement for almost twenty years, and do not keep a gun in the car. I have heard too many people road rage and change their lives with two seconds of bad judgement and a gunshot. I used to drive armed, and pulled several times without the other driver knowing it. I have changed my mind on this, knowing I am a hot head. I am driving a fast car, and have been trained to force other cars off the road and evade. If there is something dangerous around me I can run away.

My apology for our members in Texas..

KaiserSea,
I'm glad that you recognized your penchant for a temper and were willing to take preventative measures. That shows maturity.

Sounds like you had a good trip.

Although I have never used garbage bags for luggage, I found very early on that suitcases take up too much room in the irregularly shaped trunk of the SC. As a result, I use canvas tote or gym bags of various sizes, and can get an enormous amount of gear in the trunk; easily enough for a week at the beach for two people, including two beach chairs.
If garbage bags are a must for you, I suggest the ones with built-in handles - the doorman will thank you for that.
