I took my SC to Lexus dealer and run another full inspection and read the ECU messages. There were no errors at all! So, they eliminated the injector’s problem . Now they start talking about a problem in the breath Hose !!! And also a floating device that is located in the petrol tank. They say I have to replace both?!!!!

Any Idea of what they are talking about?!!!! Breath pipe + Floating devise

The only things they could be talking about in the gas tank is the fuel pump or the float/sender. I don't know but they could be combined in a Lexus as one device in the gas tank. I'm surprised that they're doing this when there weren't any codes to support their diagnosis. Besides codes though, they could have measured the fuel pressure and saw that it is out of spec. Breather? This could be the vapor canister that captures fumes from the gas tank and engine when it is shut off. These canisters can be poisoned with liquid fuel from overfilling your gas tank. The result is that the gas tank pressure cannot equalize as the fuel level is drawn down which can cause fuel starvation.

I had a problem like this with a 3rd generaion Rx-7, but it was causing fuel cut off and I could smell a little gas burn off every once in a while. Very interesting if it is in fact the fuel pump??? Keep us posted. Unfortunately, you have tried practically everything that makes "common sense" and tried all the DIY fixes, so now you just have to hope that whatever the true professionals/experts say at the dealer really works and hope it's not a million dollars to fix! Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Bon,

I am also surprised as they say noe error msgs but they insist on the breather issue. Anyway, this time I have to agree to whatever they say cuz I really miss my SC

Thanks for the great info

Sorry man, didn't mean to choke you up! Good news is that she is in good hands and hopefully they will figure it all out soon and for a decent price and you'll be rolling with good times again! Hang in there! You are extremely lucky to have such as sweet ride. She'll be back just as new again in no time!!!!

Hi all,

I am so upset with the dealer here

the problem is still there and the noise is still coming although they did the following:-

1- Check & inspect fuel line system.
replace breather hose + clean Tank + change fuel filter.
2- Check & inspect Fuel injector’s. No malfunction found.
3- Check & inspect spark plugs & coils. No malfunction found.
4- Check ECU error codes. No malfunction found.
5- Check all air & fuel hoses. No leak found.
6- Check Air-Mass-Sensor. No malfunction found.

Total bill $1000 including labor and parts

Then they remember that they did not changed the oil and filter so they changed it and the noise is reduced a lot

Their engineer says that they have put 6 liter of oil, while I was always putting 5 liters of oil when changing the oil without the filter and 5.5 liters when changing the oil with filter. He claims that there was less oil and this is way the engine noise was there
in the manual of lexus it says:-
5.0 without filter
5.5 with filter

I still did not pick up the car and not sure of what happened. Does it make sense to you?!!!! If yes then why the noise in not totally gone?!!!!!!

First, oil is added and adjusted until it is in the correct range according to the dip stick. The specific quantity depends upon how much oil remained after draining and the volume of the oil filter. The dip stick rules.

Second, a low oil level does not mean that your oil pressure is low and does not make your engine noisy. Your oil may run hotter with a low oil level but multi-weight oil limits how thin it gets as it gets hotter. That is, 5W30 oil is behaves like a 5 weight oil (doesn't get as thick as a 30 weight) when it is cold but behaves like a 30 weight oil when it is hot. If your engine is dangerously low on oil a warning light will tell you. While no one would recommend that you let it get to this point your engine is okay, under normal driving conditions, until it does.

You never said whether they drove the car and heard the noise you're describing. Did they? They should easily be able to diagnose whether it's pre-ignition knocking or something else like a piston rod knocking or valve clatter. Internal engine problems don't throw codes so I think that they would have driven your car and ruled these in or out.

From what you have said they've spent a LOT of your money and haven't even diagnosed the problem. You're in pretty deep at this point with this dealer but do you have any other dealers or competent mechanics that you can try? The work they've done so far doesn't seem like $1000 worth of parts and labor but what are you going to do.

I agree with Bon, given the large amount of money you spent, I think it's time to either contact lexus customer service or another dealer. This is not right!
