Will the new ISC decrease SC430 Values?
http://www.lexus.com/models/ISC/
As most of us are probably aware, Lexus is bringing out a new hardtop convertible based on the IS platform.
What's everyone's thoughts on the new model? How will it play in regards to SC430 market value, is it truly a flagship or just a chopped IS? Personally (with my apologies to owners) I hope it does decrease the value of the SC430 so I can get into one at a good price point.
I'm having a hard time believing it can't affect the pricing of a discontinued model...

SC 430 is not discontinued. SC 430 values should hold as it is a limited production model and it is one of those cars people still want. The SC is still the pearl of Lexus, the IS the entry level model.
Sure some people will cross shop the two but the IS-C I predict will not negatively affect SC values. They are both drop tops but really different ones.

I agree, if i were looking for a car, I would much rather have a used SC rather than a new IS-C. I think people will realize the difference once they drive the cars. Lexus wants the IS-C because they will be able to offer desirable lease options, etc. I dont think it will effect the price of the SC.
Even if we don't want to admit it, part of the purchase of a car is status. Performance is important, however, when you approach $70k you are buying quality status and performance. The ISC will be a good car, and the performance may be superior to the SC, however it will not be purchased by the typical SC buyer. For me, I would go to the Jag or the new Audi A5 S Cab. before I would buy the ISC.
Just like how the SLK does not significantly affect the resale value of the SL, or how the 3-Series convertible does not significantly affect the resale value of the 6-Series; the IS-C will not significantly affect the resale value of the SC.

I was recently negotiating a lease on a new ES with a New York dealer and we got to talking about the IS-C. He told me that if I'm interested I should wait a year because he thinks next years version will be AWD. Could make a big difference.
