Default Addon Speaker installation help

I was wanting to do this myself and install 5 extra speakers on top of the 9 standard speakers in the lexus. I dont know where to begin. I am wanting to keep the original speakers and amps as is. just add on and remove nothing. What do I need for to do? All I have at this point of time is the 5 speakers. What do I need to buy? Also, for the pros that did this already can u tell me step by step on how to do this? (installation and things i need)

I am no expert at all . I think some members have switched to aftermarket better speakers , but I have never heard of anyone adding more speakers to the original ML system . I think you should be carefull here . Ohms impedence can alter your system and make it worse not better and possible can harm amplifiers . I believe. I would let some of the experts here chime in.

First off, why do you want to add 5 extra speakers?

Its not going to work well. Adding additional speakers w/o changing the amp or amps changes the total impedance on the amp. The ML amp is designed to run 8 ohms for the front and rear speakers. 16 ohms on the subwoofer. The ML amp is not beefy like an aftermarket amp. Running a lower impedance will create extra heat on the amp and probably kill it. Running a higher impedance will reduce the power output.

You could try and wire extra speakers in series/parallel but so little power would be going to each speaker it wouldnt even be worth the effort. Im still at a loss why you would want to add 5 extra speakers in the first place.

Not a good idea at all to add additional 5 speakers. It'll sound like crap even if the additional ones sound better (because the ML speaker will bring the sound quality down.) Even if they might be sub-woofers.

More != better sound quality. Best sounding sytems are with a front left and front right, plus a sub. (the front can be a 2 or 3 way - either way I always count them all as 1 speaker/channel)

Tell us what you got and I'll tell ya if you should add them in.
