can you access airbag c/m by removing the center consol or do you have to remove the dash, any diagrams available? Also how many hours should it take? Any info appreciated.

I've got the Service Manual. The section on the Supplimental Restraint System (SRS) is 54 pages long. It's a 1.5MB pdf. PM me with your e-mail address and I'll be glad to send it to you.

Hi. I'm working on my SRS and would love a copy of SRS section of the service manual. I have a short (or something) in the negative side of the D Squib circuit. I've already replaced the clock spring and used an airbag emulator to rule out the airbag, but there's a hard airbag code I can't even clear with my scanner. Lexus of course wants $150/hr for diagnosis, but I work on electronics and have lots of tools so I'd love to pay myself instead and learn some more. Thank you.
Model is 2002 RX300.

Which bag are you having trouble with? Lexus did a big airbag recall over the past 5 years. Turns out something in the squib would rust and turn it into a miniature projectile that killed a couple of people. If it is your passenger side airbag, they will replace it for free.

Any chance the airbag went off? If so, you have to replace the module, or have the module cleared.

I have received my 4th notice from Lexus on the Takata airbag recall. Apparently what I have is a temporary one and the final one has to be installed. Every 2 or so weeks a letter comes in for this recall. I better bring it in and get a loaner car. I wonder what I will get...excited!

If I remember right, after the flaw was discovered, they put in new airbags of the same design. Then they redesigned the airbags to solve the flaw. During the initial recall they focused on humid climates, which tended to cause the squib to rust.

Out here in AZ, things are dry and the recalls came later, but only once.
