Default Fellow lexus owner needs YOU (and headers)

hello boys (and girls)

As my name implicates, I am the proud gf of an sc owner, and as you all know, the sc is a very, very special car. Its my boyfriend's birthday coming up in a few months and I would like to get him something very special.

I have never bought him anything car related so I wouldnt know where to begin, but he always comes on "CL." I suppose you would all know his car better than I would, however, I dont want to give his name in case he is reading this now. Let me just say that I would (and in turn he would also when I give him this gift) really appreciate any help with ideas and such.

Something he always talks about are headers. Now I am not sure what they are or what they do, but if it makes him happy then it makes me happy. Would anyone know where I could find these headers and how much they cost? I am willing to buy used, I think some of you sell your parts to each other. That would be great! He also wants new rims and possibly new tail lights but I am not sure which would be a great gift. One idea is performance and the other is just looks.

Please feel free to enlighten me and help me make a fellow Lexus owner very happy on his birthday!

Thanks
~lexusgf

Headers (simply put) are the pipes that funnel the exhaust gases from the engine and down into the tailpipes that lead out of the car. The factory ones were designed with cost and durability in mind (not performance). The most common headers for the SC is the S&S headers, which cost about $550 brand new. These can be purchased from www.lextreme.com or www.l-tunedparts.com. There were some issues about the durability of these headers, however, with some members reporting cracks developing over time. Therefore, it wouldn't be the best idea to get used ones, unless it is gotten at a good/deep discount (IMO).

But they remain one of the more cost-effective way of improving performance for our cars

thanks for the answers! I am going to check out these links and figure out what to do. If anyone knows about someone selling used headers that would be great but I still have some time so I can afford to wait.

to Rahstyles...your language doesnt remotely reflect the class your car embodies.

CAMAracer..thanks for the explanation, i am hoping to find used ones if i can.

intdiamond ...haha, aww thanks - i just know how happy your cars make you all so what kind of gf would i be if i didnt support his car too.

As far as your wish list is concerned, I think you have some leads on new headers. Finding used ones are a matter of luck and timing, as are the taillights. What he is probably looking for are the LED taillights that were used begining on the 2006 models, which tells me his car is likely a 2005 or earlier. They are hard to find, and if you do - jump on them. You can expect to pay $150+ each for those.
Rims - well, I'd advise you to stay away from those for 2 reasons. 1) taste - you may like them and he won't, and 2) cost - you can drop some serious coin on rims
good luck!
