I just replaced my broken main key.Luckily I had 2 main keys but still wanted an extra. I also still had the electronic component from my broken key. I bought a shell off of ebay for $10. Inserted my electronic component and called around until I found a locksmith that had the equipment to cut the key. Locksmith charged me $20. Now no problem. But if I did not have the electronic component Iwould of had to deal with the dealership.
Actually the electronic chip is not a problem either if you have a master black key. You can program one up yourself and do not need the dealer. I bought a used one off Ebay and programmed it to my car. No problem....What is important is that you have that Master key!!!!! Without it, you are going to a dealer or a real good locksmith that has invested in the reflashing machine. Not too many do! Also you have to buy the right electronic chip by comparing it to the good key that you have. It has numbers on them.
