Default TPM question

I purchased a used 2002 last summer. As November approached I picked up a set of rims and winter tires. I planned to install them without TPM sensors.
Armed with the info regarding disabling the TPM system I put the winters on the car. No alarms went off. When I put the summers back on (with sensors)
and had the vehicle into the dealer for service I asked them to check the TPM system. They did a diagnostic and reported that everything was working.
When I got home I deflated a tire. The alarm went off.
I would have expected that the alarms would have gone off when wheels with no sensors were on the car. Does anyone have an opinion as to what is happening here?

Did you or the dealer hit the switch in your glovebox that switches between your stock/TPMS wheels and a "2nd" set w/no TPMS? I used to run my 2nd set of wheels that have snow tires without TPMS (have added them since) and just hit that switch so the light/alarm wouldn't engage if there was a pressure-related issue... hope this helps.
