Spare Tire Bracket/Carrier Necessary?
Thanks to this forum's info, I bought an unused Supra temporary spare on Ebay for about 60 bucks. Fits nicely in the trunk spare tire well and doesn't move around but because it rests on the plastic well; I am concerned that the plastic will break.
Is the bracket and carrier plate/bolt from the kit necessary to support the weight of the wheel and tire? If so, I guess I will buy the following:
1 51900-91705 Carrier Assy, Spare Wheel $6.34
1 51913-24020 Plate, spare wheel mounting $15.15
1 51938-24010 Bracket,spare wheel carrier mounting $28.18
4 90105-06158 Bolt .38 ea
The tool tray is now exposed, because the luggage compartment trim cover does not have the cut out for the tire space. I am considering making a nice wood cover, stained and varnished (I have the paint) as opposed to spending $88 bucks for the Lexus cover. I washed the spare tire and wheel; I think I will just leave that showing and not buy or make a cover for it. Probably not carry the spare around in the city anyway. I have an inflator can and auto club membership.
I gotta say that I worry about most things -- I carry a tire patch kit and ContiComfort sealer/inflator in the trunk along with a small "jump and carry" battery (which has saved me several times). I'm even thinking of carrying a tarp in case the LuxLink messes up and my roof gets stuck.
But the plastic breaking hasn't worried me a bit. For long trips when I take the spare, I just wedge the tire down and, as you say, it fits nice and snug without any rattle.

I made a new floorboard out of underlayment board and painted it silver. The last pictures show the wood panel that I cut.
I had seen your spare tire installation before buying the Supra spare, nice job. I finished varnishing my hardwood panel and spoke to a trim shop about making a carpet. They wanted $75. no color match, no yarn wrapped edges and no rubber backing. So I ordered the Lexus spare tire mat, $93. I see you pushed your rectangular mat up, which doesn't look bad but I hope my solution will look better. I bought a spray can of yellow paint and will re-paint the wheel, so it looks new. I think I can leave the tire exposed.
I mounted the Supra spare on the front of my car to verify the fit. Worked great.

I used http://auctionsniper.com/ to search and email ebay auction items. In several months only one came up. I used http://www.ezsniper.com/ to snipe it for me and my guess is no Lexus roadster owners bid on it as I got a really good deal. I no longer use auctionsniper for my bids as they failed me a couple of times last year. ezsniper requires me to pay up front fees, but they are very reliable; however I don't like their search engine.
So if you set up an automatic search for supra spare, in a few months you might get a hit. My suggestion is to set your sniper maximum high enough to win; might take 100 bucks if the roadster owners find out about the auction.
RX8 spare tire
That will get you to the same dealer that Farkas and I both purchased our spares from. In fact if you visit Farkas' posting (linked in his posting above) you will see his pictures showing that instead of a solid steel wheel, it's an alloy wheel.
It's good looking for a spare and it should be lighter than the steel wheel.
Happy hunting.
And for the record, I am not in any way involved with any eBay auctions.

The fact that the RX8 tire is thinner bothers me. Load factor might be a problem even though I know I won't be driving long witht hat spare.
The Supra spare, I think, is the corr3ct size like the Lexus spare.

I was attracted by the fact that the RX8 tire was new and had a lighter wheel. But now that I have the Supra, the steel wheel doesn't seem heavy to me at all. I have taken it in and out several times and don't see how an alloy wheel would make much difference. Regarding the load bearing capacity of the RX8 spare, doesn't an RX8 vehicle weigh about the same as the roadster? Even a few hundred pounds spread over 4 wheels, should not make that much difference IMHO.
It took a couple of days, but I just got an on-line quote from Carson Toyota for the non run flat spare tire luggage compartment mat. 6471124171B0 MSRP $70.85 $0.00 Discounted net price $56.68
I already had Santa Monica Lexus order it for me at $93. plus tax so I have learned to do a better job of shopping for parts next time. They showed me their computer system had the price at $104. I thought MSRP was all dealers list price, maybe not.
Now for the Supra spare tire question: There is another thread on this forum that answered that question. I think it was all Supra's used the same spare and the last year was 1998. Also, I think I read that all SC430 years have the same hubs and brakes, so the spare wheel is the same.
My Supra Spare tire set up is now complete. Looks nice with Lexus spare tire luggage mat and repainted spare wheel. The inside of the wheel is great for storing emergency battery cable and other stuff. By the way, did I mention I tried the Supra wheel on the front and it bolts up and turns just fine.
