Default P0155 Oxygen Sensor

Took the SC out of winter storage a couple of weeks ago and found that the check engine light was on. Autozone code-checker determined it was a code P0155, Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 defective.

Based on some snooping around I've done, this appears to be a problem that any reputable auto shop can remedy and one that a Toyota or Lexus dealer will sock me for several hundred bucks.

The car has just shy of 18,000 miles on it.

Anyone have any experience with this kind of problem and is able to offer up some advice?

Thanks
EdP

The same thing happend to me on my 02.I purchased the 02 sensor online for 69.00 and my mechanic installed it for $40.The only problem you will have is a decrease in gas mileage. It happened to me and a few others on this forum.I ended up losing 3mpg. No one seems to know why.

Does anyone know if you DON'T get the drop in gas mileage if you pay the dealer-gouging cost of the Lexus O2 sensor?

No difference between the two. They come in universal (no OEM plug, just leads) and with the plug. Either way the sensor is the same. Typical 4 wire O2 sensor. Any autoparts store should have them available and the replacement is fairly simple keeping in mind that getting to the plug can be the tough part depending on which sensor it is.

Ahh, OK, bank 2, sensor 1 is the passenger side sensor before the cat. So the plug is easier to get to than the rears which go under the carpet inside. This plug is still a pickle to get to as there are some clips that need to be uncliped (for lack of a better word) to access the plug.

Make sure you have a O2 sensor socket to remove it properly.

Thanks for all the information.

Unfortunately, I do not have a mechanic. My buddy, who was the service manager at a Honda dealer used to take care of me, but he retired. The nerve!

Gotta do some research now.
