Default ODB-II connector and protocol

Does anyone know where precisely the ODB-II connector is located? I'm sure several folks do so, maybe I should ask....Would someone please tell me precisely where the ODB-II connector is located?

Also, what protocol does the 2003 SC430 use, if you know?

I find this kind of thing supremely frustrating.

This is a notice to all manufacturers; you cannot call it a "standard" and then produce 3 different, incompatible protocols! Look up the word "standard" in the dictionary, then come back here and apologize to everyone.

I've done some research and I've found more than one source that says the 2006 and up SC430's use the CAN (ISO15765-4) protocol but, before I spend $100 on a single-protocol interface, I'd love to have some confirmation that the 2003 uses the CAN protocol also. Haven't found any source that says for sure what protocol the 2003 uses.

Check with a company called AutoTap. They make diagnostic ODBII software that runs on a PC (laptop). I have used it successfully on: Jeep, Chrysler, Mercury, Acura and Dodge all with the same ODBII connector and a single piece of software.

I bought it for the Mercury.

Good Luck.

PS. My wife drives the SC430. 2002, Red, Ecru, 17K miles. Haven't needed it for the Lexus yet.
