I am not a big fan of the traction control because it sometimes unnecessarily kicks in. My question for ya'll is there a way to turn it off and have it stay off? Mine just stays off for a few seconds.

Any way to do this?

 

On my 2003, once I turn the VSC off, it stays off until I a) turn it back on or b) shut off and restart the car.

Could this be something that changed in the 05+ cars? Or is there maybe an issue with your car?

 

I would love to know. 05-08 owners please chime in with how your car behaves with this. Just to make sure we are all on the same page, and I am referring to the correct button, it is the button behind the gear-shifter and next to the coin holder.

 

I agree with your thoughts on the traction control. On my '07 it will automaticaly turn off at about 30 mph. This happens regardless of the position of the rocker switch that controlls the shift points.

 

My 02 def. stays off, Ive got the skid marks to prove it.. very scary in the rain

 

did you take a look at the user manual and see how to turn it off? i would asusme just press it and it will stay off until you shut off the car. i know on newer lexus, you press and hold for couple of secs

Well is there a way to have it remain on?

 

I verified tonight on the way home from work. Turned the VSC off on my '03 and it stayed off...even on the highway going...err...55 MPH.

When I first took a test drive in the SC430, the salesman mentioned to me that you can't totally disable the traction control...that it would turn back off above a certain speed. When I got my car and discovered that this wasn't the case, I just chalked it up to the salesman just not quite knowing all of the particulars about this specific model (would be hard to know EVERYTHING about every Lexus model). Looks like he was talking about the newer ones. I have to be nice when I talk about the salesman, he hangs out here.

 

On the 2002 if you turn it off it stays off. I have had it on the track at all speeds and it does not turn back on. But if your rear steps out you are gone. I have thought about putting in the LSD but my understanding is that it will de-activate the VSC because there is no differential slippage to sense and activate the VSC. On wet pavement the VSC is very valuable. On the Jag XKR the VSC is variable and you can dial in the amount you want.

 

Rememberd this thread and tried it today on my 06. Once turned off, remained off -- regardless of speed -- until ignition cycled off and back on.

 

Ohh...now that makes it interesting! So, does that mean there's something going on with SC430Sam's VSC system?

 

I sure hope nothing is wrong (but I do wish it would stay off). There were a few additional options added to the 07 from the 06, but I could not imagine this would be a change they would make. Surely someone on here has an 07 or 08 to test this out.
