Just off the top of my head, probably the CL for both... I'm not certain though.

the cl would probably take the sc on a straightaway. not too sure how it would handle on a track, but the sc isnt known for having the greatest handling either.

I had a 1998 CL500 just before I bought the SC430. Stock vs. stock, the CL is faster in a straight line and more balanced in the curves. Fitting the SC430 with coilovers and/or swaybars gives the edge to the SC in the curves.

Overall, the SC is the more exciting/fun car with a lower, more sporty feel. The convertible top, the sound system, and the far superior interior make it a more fun car to drive than the CL, imho.

Hope that helps.

Well the numbers are as follows

2004 cl 500
302hp
339 ft-lb
4085 curb weight

Sc430 any year
300 hp
325 ft-lb
3840 curb weight

Just numerically speaking the sc430 should take the cl in a straight line. That’s just my opinion iv never driven the cl.

The SC may look sportier but it's definately not more sporty. I love the convertible top and sound system but hands down the CL is on another level. Not because I own one but because I feel lexus destroy the SC history when they made the SC430.

mercedes reports the 0-60 as 6.1 seconds. so it's roughly the same, if not slightly slower than the sc.

I'm 6'6" and I tried the New and older SL's and I couldn't close the roof. I fit in the SC430 no problem. If they are with in a second of each other for performance then it becomes driver Dependant. A good driver in either car would blow most of us away.

The CL has a back seat that you can actually put people into. The SL550 would be a more equal comparison. though it has a package shelf instead of seats. Kind of like ours but our package shelf is covered in leather.
The SL costs $30K more. What do you get for $30K? The Cl is $40K more. What could you do to a SC430 brand new with $40K more to play with?
I would think all three cars have a unique style. People either like them or they don't but the Lexus interior wins hands down.
Now go compare parts and service. Lexus is a bargain compared to Mercedes parts and service.

Depends what year they're rated at.

The newer SC430 are rated at a true 288hp/317ftlbs.

In reality, all SC430 will probably have the same 288/317 figure. It just happens that the earlier models were overrated, even though performance figure stayed the same.

The 2004 CL500 is quicker than the SC430 by a tad bit on the straight line.

Keep in mind that even though the CL500 weighs 200lbs more, it has a large 5.0L that makes more low-end torque than the SC430.

actually, the cl500's quarter mile is 14.6 seconds. the sc430's is 14.4. so they're basically the same in a straight line.

I believe you mean a CLK500?(4 passenger)Or a SL500.(two Passenger) Mercedes doesn't make a Cl convertible as far as I know.
Go check their forums for problem areas. That is what i did as I wanted a
CLK500. I could barely find a problem area in the Lexus forums excpt for tires!
So I bought the Lexus.
