Default An Ipod Integration Kit

I'm interested in knowing if anyone has installed an Ipod integration kit in an 02? I have the stock deck and wanted to know if someone has installed the integration kit using the aux port. If so please post...thanks

Default Sc 430 Ipod interface that works

I found the ipod interface that works for my 02 SC430. The PA15-TOY can be bought for $140 at Shop20Four7. Only one modification had to be made. The CAS-TA wiring harness that comes with the kit is not needed - and does not work anyway. Pull the radio (I found these instructions online - pretty easy, thanks Lexus) and find the 3 wiring harnesses on the back of the radio. Release the harness with the two wires and plug in the PA15-TOY. You will clip the two wires from this 2 wire harness (I kept this harness for later just in case) and added a length of wire to each of them about 4-6 inches long. Splice these 2 wires to the 2 live ends and plug them into the back of the PA15-TOY at the EXACT same location as one the removed original harness. These two wires control the navigation door opener, but in the same location, the switch and voice still work fine. There is no display anywhere - except on the Ipod, but I use a wireless control on my dash for that anyway.

If you still are not getting any display other than the ipod screen, it would seem that a vais would be a little less hassle to install as you don't have to spice wires. It is about 80 bucks less than the vais. Looks like it's a less expensive way for anyone looking for additional inputs if you can figure out the wiring.

How do you switch between inputs?

I also don't understand the reference to the nav door switch what's going on there?

Default nav door switch

If you unplug the harness with the 2 wires it disables the "open" switch on the navigation, so the wires must be reconnected (spliced) to the ipod interface plug in harness. I saw the Vais but it was more than $100 more. Does it work perfectly? Do you get an ipod display on the radio or the navigation screen? The switching to the ipod shows up on the radio as "AUX" but, since there is no "AUX" switch you just plug in the ipod and it switches itself on. The USA Spec manual says that CD track 9 switches it on but I haven't tried that yet. The other audio buttons work normally.

I went with the VaisTech SLU unit but used the SLI harness. This way it lets me send audio and charge the iPod with one connection. I still only get AUX on the display (02 SC) but its a direct plug and play with a second audio input for DVD.

Default DIP switches help?

The USA spec model also charges the ipod. It has 4 dip switches. I haven't experimented with every combination but switch 4 shuts off the AUX indicator light on the radio so that no display is shown. Dip switch one allows the addition of any RCA type input signal. Switches 3 and 4 seem taylored to the Tundra, Solara, and Avalon radios with a TEXT button. Any way I'm very pleased to have the real Levinson sound playing from my ipod.

Default You don't know what you're missing!

I've had the USA spec ipod interface for a week now and can't believe what I've been missing! I've tried the cassette device and tried the FM transmitter and now I realize how lousy these are. This direct plug in gives you the complete sound that the Levinson stereo is all about. Every sound from base, to midrange, to high frequencies are rich and powerful.

By the way the 4th dip switch turns off turns off the RDS. This is good because the antenna goes down and stays off. The only other thing that does not work is the "auto" sound level switch. But by using the "mode" button on the steering wheel you get an instant mute. Hit it again returns the sound to the previous volume level.

KiPod,

Do I assume correctly that you have to control the ipod by the controls on the ipod itself?

From what I have researched, there is not a unit available for the '01-'04 sc430 to "integrate" the ipod. The SLU does provide for aux input, but charging and operating the ipod were not integrated. As you are using the SLI wiring harness, can you describe the functionality of your setup a bit more?
As my second changer has now gone TU (first replaced under warranty, doubt this one will be replaced), I am searching for an acceptable way to integrate the venerable IPOD.

Thanks...

Yes, I still have to control the iPod by using the iPod itself. The radio only controls the volume. By using a SLI harness with the SLU it let me keep the iPod charging while in use and it has built in audio input cables as well.

This is a workable solution for me... How did you get the SLI cable? I do not see it for sale individually.

Thanks...

I would contact them and ask for the iPod harness from the SLI. I had access to a spare harness, tried it out, and it ended up working.

Default ipod interface that works!

Yes, Iposted before but can't find it on the first 6 pages. Use the USAspec TOY20. It was quite easy and I had to make only one minor modification. The USAspec website does not show the '02 as a compatible model, but it works great - unbelievable sound.
