Issues with 02-04 SC and Newer Vais Technology SLU
I recently purchased and installed a Vais Technology SLU for my 02 SC430. Although it does sound much better than an FM or Tape adapter, I've run in to some problems that, according to Vais Support (through much correspondence), are not fixable.
Apparently Vais made some changes to the SLU that affect newer cars but cause problems with older cars (e.g. 2002-2004 SC430).
The two issues it causes:
- The car will always start with the AUX source selected, no matter which audio source was playing when the car was turned off (e.g. CD, FM1/2, AM).
- You cannot select the CD or FM2 audio source from the steering wheel anymore. The cycle goes from AM to FM1 to AUX, then back to AM. This is contrary to what is stated in their product literature and manual, where it is supposed to cycle:
AM-FM1-AUX1-FM2-TAPE-CD-AM-FM1-AUX2-FM2-TAPE-CD- then back to AM
The original SLU is no longer available.
I'm thinking about returning the SLU module. While the two issues are fairly minor and the AUX input does sound great, I listen to the radio AND CDs frequently and not being able to change over to them using the steering wheel is quite a disappointment.
Just an FYI in case any 2002, 2003, or 2004 owners are thinking about purchasing the SLU.

AFAIK that has always been the case. I actually prefer that it starts up in AUX mode myself and I never heard of it being controlled or changeable in any way through the steering wheels controls and mine is over a year old. I knew those things when I purchased it and frankly the steering wheel controls on this car are not convenient IMO to begin with so I never touch them. Any CD's I may like are just ripped onto the Ipod to keep everything in one place. Thats just me of course.

wow! the unit is around $200 have problem even if you say it is minor. I would not spend money on it. I missed the GB and I guess it is luck for me.
Thanks for the great info!!!!!!!!!!
I will wait for the better unit for it. I am waiting for the video input unit for 2002 sc430 *^^*
