Default broke down with what I think is the rear diff.

Guys, I have been hearing a thud in the rear once in a while the past few weeks. I blew my rear diff in my old is350 and this feels and sounds the same. I won't know anything until the morning. Question is I have 72730 on the clock and just ran out of warranty about a month and half ago. Could I or should I contact lexus about this to see if they would cover this? Fully or partially? Wasn't sure if it's worth trying to?

Also anybody have a diff they are selling or know where I can get one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

sometimes they will cover things under good faith. I have had them do this before. I would for sure give it a shot.

It won't hurt to contact a lexus dealer first.. Softer the manager up with some good convo first then lay it on him

If you need a tech to swap it out for you...My buddy is a Head Lexus Tech and has his own shop at his house in Spring Grove..He might be able to swap it out for you...He did my IS-F Diff swap out.

I'm not sure how much he would charge you though.

Good luck and I hope it's not what you think it is. I seen a pre 2010 on the big auction for $250. It has been for sale for some time now. FYI, A rear diff is very easy to swap if you want to tackle it.

So lexus corporate is assigning me a case number and I have to get the car towed to my local dealer for inspection. they can't tell me anything until an inspection has been done and how much it would cost to fix. At which then they will determine if lexus will cover the cost of repair, or if any portion. think I'm going to go this route and see if lexus will step up and cover this issue.

You've blown up both an IS350 and an IS-F differential? That's pretty bizarre.

Lexus should do a goodwill repair even if you are out of warranty, as long as you ran out recently. I was 6 months out and they replaced my nav screen as a goodwill.

Besides a thump noise how did you know it was your differential that was defective?

I was going to say the exact same thing.

BS ISF - have you changed your diff oil out on both cars before?

I thought this was very strange as well having both my 2008's blowing up rear diff's. My is350 only had 48k on it when that one went and I was going to change out my diff oil in the spring on the F but I then this happened. I just find it hard to believe that I'm an isolated case with this. I drive spirited but don't beat the living hell out of my car and make sure all routine maintenance is done on time.
