07 Transmision
I have had my 07 Pebble Beach for a few weeks now. I was driving a Z4 for the past 4 years. First impressions; felt like I was driving a 1960 Lincoln convertable since the car is 18" longer than the Z4 and as well you sit right on the rear wheels of the Z4 and no back seat. Also the SC felt very soft and loose in the handling. Now after a few weeks, I will never go back. I love the car and have adjusted to the ride and handeling. It is so nice to have total quiet with the top up. I have the top down about 70% of the time but when you want it up you want quiet. In a previous post I told about the Sat converter which I love. Also I hard wired a new Escort Gps radar detector. It fits on the dash far left next to the windshield post, not so obvious with the inspection sticker above it. What I do not like is the transmision. I have had Audi A6's in the past and the transmision is direct when in the sport mode. The SC in sport shift mode has a mind of its own. You shift and it waits till it is good and ready to shift. Also when in sport mode if you stop, it does not go down to 1st automaticaly. Another question, when hard acelerating from a stop while in a turn, the traction controll really holds the car back. Whats up with that! Don't charge into traffic this way because there is little aceleration. I know this transmision is not designed like the dual clutch automatics with paddle shift, but I think they really missed the boat by not giving a more direct response. Sounds like I don't like the car, I love it, I guess every car has something wrong, I just wish this car had a transmision up to the overall standards of the car. Surt
The same thing happens to me when I try to pull out into traffic, I absolutely hate it!! You feel so helpless, you are pushing the petal to the metal and yet the trac has a mind of its own and powers you down
So now it has become routine for me to turn off VSC as soon as I start the car, yes you occasionally get a little wheel spin but I don’t mind that at all
. The only times I leave it on is if the ground is wet, raining or if I’m driving like a grandma

Your comments about the 1960 Lincoln convertible really hit home with me! I traded in an '06 MX-5 Miata for my SC430, and when I drove it home all I could think was "this thing feels like a Japanese Buick!"
But all it took was a few quiet highway miles to make me realize I'd made the right decision. Plus, this is my second SC430, so I kinda knew what to expect going in. I immediately ditched the runflats and put on Michelin P/S so now the ride and handling is improved. I do miss the MX-5 when I'm tooling around town with the top down, but I don't miss it when I'm on the highway with the top up. (Is there a "nails on a chalkboard" emoticon???)
I agree with you about the transmission. I don't even bother with the manual shift feature. My Infinitis have the "throttle blip" feature, and they are so quick to downshift trying to do it in the Lexus just frustrates me. I just leave the car in Sport mode.
Still a great car. Welcome to CL, and enjoy your SC!
