Just got back from Los Angeles to San Francisco (~350 miles of straight crusing at 80mph):

Averaged 27.2 mpg
Lowest: 16.5 mpg (20 miles of uphill near Castaic)
Highest: 38.4 mpg (20 miles of downhill near grapevine)

I typically get 23 mpg of mixed city and highway driving. SC is kept in tip top shape with Mobil 1 oil and regular maintenance. Only mod is a K and N air filter.

Usually 19.5 mpg on Charlotte NC driving. Not too crowded, city streets. Will go to PA from NC next week for Easter and report in after getting back.

I can't wait to find out. I get my 2004 (5 speed) in two weeks with a 1600 mile drive home to look forward to. I'll sit on the interestate at 70 and hope to report at least 24 mpg or more.

I should be able to offer some comparison data at differing altitudes, as I suspect that may have some factor in the equation as well. 1600 miles out to be at least 4 tanks of gas, so four sections to measure... hmmm. flats out of Dallas into OK and Kansas. Then going up hill to Denver, then down hill out of Colorado thru Wyoming and into Montana. Then pretty flat across Alberta.... yes, I'm looking forward to the couple days of solitude with my new baby.

Last weeks highway run for 1200 miles averaged 26.5mpg at 80-85.
Not bad for a 300HP engine.

Best was 30.2 at 65mph.

Back from PA yesterday. 1200 Miles round trip. Charlotte, NC to Center Valley, PA. Hills through NC and VA. Averaged: 25.7 MPG. Took Dad out and of course had to open it up a few times for him! Almost 26 MPG round trip with some wide open blasts included, AWESOME!

Has anyone tried one of those hydrogen boosters? I'm lucky if I get 20mpg driving in NYC and many have claimed big increases in gas mileage. I've topped at 25.7 on my trip to RI but my drive to Toronto was a little less efficient (22-23)! I suspect a combination of colder temps (November) and a dirty air filter are to blame. What do you think?

I've got a rental car for the week (SC430's getting some work done). I'm a Toyotal Solara. Just about the most boring-*** car you can get.

Despite the car, I STILL have the crappy DC commute. It's only been 2 days but, I'm averaging 13-14 MPG...in a Solara!

It's not the "gas-guzzling V8" in my SC430, it's the commute!

From my door to the office, it's 8 miles. It took me an hour and 10 minutes to drive those 8 miles today. I don't see my City MPG going up any time soon.

Great idea, except that I live in a condo. To say that parking is a premium is an understatement. I have nowhere to put a second car.

Plus, the SC430 is so nice to sit in. On nice days, I sit in that horrible traffic with the top down and the stereo up. Then, the commute's not that bad!

Habious,, know where you're coming from.. 10 years ago lived at Shirley Highway and Duke street exit.., can be a slow crawl to the "District" even from there at 0700!!!! But,, this time of the year,, "top down", who cares!!
