Swear to God...the license plate on my car reads "14 MPG".

I get 13-14 MPG in the city but, here's the thing; I'm talking about TRUE city driving. Downtown Washington DC during rush hour...in the morning and in the evening. Sitting at a light at idle...and watching that light change from red, to green, to yellow, to red, to green, to yellow to red, to green...OK, now I can go through the intersection! True stop-and-go driving. Not just driving from light to light, creeping from light to light. It can be downright awful sometimes.

The top down and the ML stereo up makes it tolerable though. And, the seats are very comfy to just sit in.

On the highway, I get like 25-26 MPG.

Also, how you drive it is obviously a big factor. I keep the ECT switch in "Power" mode always and, I'm not afraid to get on it. I tend to manually put it into a lower gear to improve the throttle response...makes the car a lot more "peppy"...then upshift as needed. All of these factors affect the MPG I know but, what the hell, you only live once.

From Dallas to Seattle, 2,650 miles was just under 26MPG at 103 gallons total used. That was cruising at 70 (80 between Dallas and El Paso) and some two lane work up California's coast as the Siskiyou's were closed.
So far around town including 1 mile of steep hills each day getting home has been 17.2. Still hasn't used any oil.

Something has got to be seriously wrong if you're getting that kind of mileage. I average 20+ combo in town and highway. I don't ever sit in commute traffic, but I can't imagine dropping to 13 or 14mpg.

I have been to Washington DC and their traffic sucks. Driving in from Baltimore
the last three miles took 35 minutes! I can see why he gets only 13-14 mpg because most of the time he isn't moving forward!

I am easily getting 20-21 mpg daily. It was 2 mpg less than that when I had the 3.76 gears.

around 18 mpg in downtown San Francisco and 22 to 23 mpg on the freeways. I seldom step hard on the gas when driving the SC.

I live in Leesburg, Va but most of the time I am in DC I tend to leave the city before 4pm and hop right on 66 so not quite as creepy as DC streets but I know exactly what you mean. I also drive with my car in power, unless it snows at which point I drive in "garage" mode and take the wifes volvo lol.

We have little traffic here in Oregon, the only city with traffic being Portland. I know traffic as used to live in DC. If I drive in rural roads and keep the speed around 60 I get over 30 mpg. On interstate 5 keeping up with fast traffic I get over 28. I never have gotten less than 23. I find the computer is about .6 generous. Now for comparison I used to have a SC 400 and the best mileage I could get was 23.

Smile Mileage Report 2002 SC430

I just came back from a 2800 mile trip on the interstate system and I consistently got 25.9 mpg. That is what the trip computer showed, but I checked it against gas purchased and map quest miles driven and it is true. I always stayed within the speed limit, often a few miles under. Most of the driving was 65-75 mph. Most of the route was flat land which probably helped too. Also, very little speeding up to pass.

I am impressed, the V8 is really doing a great job.

Hi,

Here are my results...they are rather consistent over the last many years on the SC430. I reset quite often depending on what kind of driving I do. If my mpg dips then I look at getting service.

All freeway 24.1mpg
All street 16.8mpg
Blend 18.9mpg
Spirited driving - who cares about mpg at that rate
