SC = super coupe, not sport coupe; that's what Lexus said when it came out in '92. whatever that means.

It's only 0.3 inches lower than the SC430, but that's only for the SL500 (& I suppose SL600 too)

I think the AMG models of the SL are lower than that still . . .

My other friend has a SL55 AMG and it is a little lower than the SC430 ground clearance. This is because of the AMG's susupension. I've seen it in person is it's very bad a--.

So I think that the SC430 ground clearance is very reasonable compared to the other sport/luxury models out there on the market right now.

Hello,

We were looking at buying a townhome today and the driveway has a steep slope. After test driving my 2006 SC 430 into the garage I am uncomfortable with the ground clearance, it's about 1/4 inch with just me in the car and bags in the trunk. Other websites suggest installing bigger tires, for example 245/45/17 or 245/50/17. Right now, I have 245/40/R18 tires installed. I am not a motor head, I just love cruising in our SC with the top down while my dog's nose soaks in sniffs over the top - people's smiles are great too. I appreciate any help.

Questions:
  1. Can I switch tires to gain another 1/3 - 1/2 inch?
  2. Are there other solutions to increase ground clearance?
  3. Is there a combination to increase ground clearance?
With appreciation for those who know,
SS

This is a very old thread, but I'm curious to hear what you find out., a lot has probably been done in the 18 years since this thread started.
