4 most common problems in '02-'03 SC430
I was asked by a member of this listserve to post the most common problems and fixes reported in the Technical Service Bulletins issued by Lexus. Here they are:
1. Engine-Rough idle while stationary in drive. Fix: Replacement of crack rubber engine mount seals. See TSB EG013-04
2. Drive Belt Chirping/Squealing Noises. Fix: replacment of accessory belt.
3. Audio problems such as drop off in sound, no sound, sudden increase in sound etc. Fix: Replace Mark Levinson amplifier.
4. Front stabilizer bar-abnormal noise on turns/bumps. Fix: adjust bolt tightening torque of the mounting hardware. TSB SU003-02
All in all, there are about 50 TSBs that deal with various issues, but 16 or so are particulary of interest to the consumer. A number of these bulletins deal specifically with questions that have been raised on the listserve. I've only listed a few of the more common ones I've seen. To see the entire list, just Google Lexus and Technical Service bulletins or go to edmunds.com. You can get a full detail of each TSB by subscribing to AllDATA.
I hope this helps

PS- another common problem is no spare tire
.
Frankly, without doing some quick research on warranty law, I don't know if they are obligated by law to fix items listed in their TSBs if your car is out of warranty. I do know that in instances like this if you mention the TSB, they will typically repair the problem for free or comp the parts and only charge you labor. It's really a matter of how much you complain. My position would be that even though I did not bring this matter to them within the warranty period, they knew of the problem during that time and had an obligation to fix it.
Good luck
Do not just go in and tell them tsb numbers they will quickly get on you about that. But just go in and complain about the same conditions as the tsb pertains to and hope that they will do the tsb under warranty for you.
