Front speakers muffled in SC430?
Mates,
Just purchased a 2002 SC430 and the front speakers are muffled. It's not just one or two speakers but all of the front speakers sound muffled. (I've experimented with the fade and balance to make sure). The speakers sound as if the bass is turned way up, but the volume is turned low. Additionally, the front speakers will intermittently cut out completely. Any thoughts on what this could be before I spend my time having it checked out?

If it sounds like that with a quality CD and the 'tone' controls adjusted properly (treble, mid, and bass not all the way down, and fader in the middle), there's something wrong.
The only speakers that sound weird by themselves are the rear ones, as they're more of a sound effect (coupled to the sub-woofer), so the front speakers (3 in each door) should sound very crisp alone.
As a comment, I don't see how that would be a defect; it's most likely damage inflicted by the previous owner, so be prepared to be handed a bill. Discuss your options with your dealer so you avoid any surprises. Cross your fingers that it's covered under warranty... if still in effect. Good luck.
