Sooner or later I'm going to be stopped for not having my front license plate on. My planned excuse, "The dealer hasn't mailed me the plate bracket yet", will be good for only one time as this town is small enough for me to get the same peace officer twice.

Is anyone aware of a bracket that actually fits the front bumper instead of the one supplied by Lexus that makes the plate look like the car has its tongue hanging down?

Thanks

Thumbs up No front plate

Don't worry too much about it.

I have been driving an SC400 and SC430 for almost 10 years without a required front plate, and haven't had a problem yet. Most cops just plain don't care, and most 2-plate states are in the process of dropping the front plate as it just costs too much.

Happy motoring.

genearch ...

I didn't even have to tell my dealer not to mount the front plate - in fact, I never even thought of it. I made an assumption that Lexus would have something that fit well and looked good.

When I picked up my car, the salesman said he wanted to wait for my permission before he had the plates put on and that so far, no one who had picked up their SC430 wanted the front plate mounted.

FWIW ... the bracket comes with two self-threading metal screws. You punch two small holes in the bumper (ouch!) and screw them in. If you *must* mount the plate, ask your dealer for black plastic 16mm machine screws used to attach the plate to the bracket. I had already bought a couple of 16mm non-rusting bolts to do that, but today the mechanic gave me a couple of plastic screws that I like better. (hmmm ... that didn't sound right, did it).
