SC430 and iPod
vaistech is buggy and thats why they stopped selling it. I am pretty sure it wasnt working with the older sc's meaning 2002-2004. Nav-tv uses fm modulator so ur basically screwed till vaistech fixes their problem or another company comes out with a solution
I don't think that there is an easier route, because the complex and sophisticated audio and NAV systems were not designed with anything like this in mind, and on top of that, they are not readily accessible.
It's not like in the 70's when you could just pop out the old crappy original radio and slide a new one into the dash in its place. Crutchfield became a big company by making that pretty easy to do. With all the integration of the radio today with other systems in the car and with controls on the steering wheel, etc, it has become a pretty daunting task to alter and modify these systems.
This is how cars become obsolete, at least in part.
The rest of the tech world moves on.

i think i read that vaistech are working on a fully functional one for the sc430...
id def get something like that if it was fully integrated...
i dont want a half *** job on my car, esp when it costs over 50k..

i need to find the link. that isn't the harmin kardon set-up I was talking about. The one I was talking about requires no wiring at all. you put the ipod plugged in the arm rest out of site with power. Than you have a controller and screen (they both run on batteries) to mount. It was cool and about $200

I agree. In my (limited) experience, the systems that use FM are quick to promote "no wires" and "convenient" but fail to mention that audio quality is terrible, mostly because in a moving car, especially a car with the antenna way out on the back outside corner of the car, there is a lot of static and other interference. To the extent that they work on batteries, that's another great inconvenience, because the signal gets worse as the batteries run down.
That's why I switched to a wired system that uses one of those cassette plug in deals. It's less convenient because it requires some setup, and you have that wire running out of the dash to the iPod, but if you have a convenient place to mount the iPod and you can use a car charger to power the iPod, the inconvenience is offset by the very clear sound with so static whatsoever.
On the otherhand, I tend to use this setup for longer trips, and a system built into the ML audio would make it easier to use the iPod for shorter trips on the spur of the moment, but for that I have AM and FM and CD available and do not feel deprived. A built in adapter would be nice, but a retrofit for our cars is just not going to happen, at least not for any kind of a reasonable price.
In case you missed my point, and I often don't have a point, stay away from the FM systems -- they are a lot of trouble and come with a lot of static and interference from real radio stations on nearby frequencies.

yes, and i used to agree. I have a unit now it looks like a robitic arm it charges and sends fm modulated signal to any station. It works perfect. Everywhere even on a boat. ALL of my old fm modulated units never worked well. Some of the new "powered" ones that are not battery opperated are very stong now. That harmin kardin unit got great reviews. Someone on here had it set-up as well.
I will never forget the first day I brought my new fm modulated charger on the boat. Everyone was like "no way" (the boat has a sick system and any quality loss is very obvious). After trying it everyone was in agreement it sounded as good as a tape connector. Itrip and the others are junk! some are good.
