The 12V model is for 12V batteries, as in the Lexus; the 6V model is for motorcycles and such things.
I just went to their web site and saw that they have a waterproof model they did not have when I purchased mine. Go here http://www.batterytender.com/ and click on the Waterproof 800 picture on the right side of the page. They also offer 25 foot extension leads which will give you more options on where you can place the device.
They have a Contact page on their site in case you need technical advice.

Check with California Car Cover (www.calcarcover.com) for some ideas on a cover. The catalogs are fun to review.
Place your Battery Tender Plus in a small bucket with a larger bucket as a cover. Then slide it under the wheel wheel area. The unit doesn't need a lot of air flow around it, though it does get warm when operating. Just don't let it blow over or become snow bound.

1NICESC430, thanks for checking out the model! I was looking at their site & I can't believe I missed the fact that they have a waterproof model!!!!
Tammy, I already have a car cover (I have a NOAH cover), but thank you for posting the website. And great idea for the the placement of the charger!
One final question: I see the the Waterproof 800 model is good for 800mA. I have NO idea what that means. I guess it's less than 1 amp. Will this be enough to "maintain" a battery?

Their site states that the waterproof model has the same specs as the BatteryTender Jr. which is a 0.75 amp trickle charger "... with a brain". The BatteryTender Plus is a 1.25 amp device - it is not a trickle charger; it's also not waterproof.
I would go to their contact page and send them an email asking all your relevant questions. They know their product best.

L,
I've been updating my FAQ links for winter storage, here are a few you can find using search. I pretty much used 'winter storage' to gather these, some very detailed.

I thought about FL, but I don't like tropical storms either
Alright, I just ordered the Waterproof 800 and the 25 ft. extension lead from http://www.batterytender.com/ It should arrive early next week. I have a dumb question, but maybe some of you may know the answer to it.
When I called up customer support to get their recommendation regarding my situation, they warned me about my alarms. They said that the Waterproof 800 model (along with the BatteryTender Jr.) is a 0.75 amp charger and will work ONLY if the drain on the battery is less than 50% of 0.75amp.
Is there anyway I can tell? Besides my alarms (OEM & aftermarket), is there anything else that is draining the battery when the car is not running?
I have one of those electrical meters (sorry, don't know the technical name....voltameter?), can I read how much energy is being drained out of the battery?
The technician also mentioned that I should check the water in the battery? I was confused. I thought batteries were maintenance free? I thought batteries are sealed. He said not all batteries. He got me worried. I've never checked the battery before. But I'm pretty sure I have a maintenance free battery (it's only 6 months old).

hey thats why most houses in FL got garages LOL. Anyways Yes your right its called a voltameter, there is a setting to measure current using the voltamter, however I doubt the alarm is going to drain the battery that much, so I wouldnt really worry about it. Also yes there are alota batteries where u got to put water in it, you can easily tell if your battery is one of those by reading on top usually it'll say something about the water level. And also some of them have a clear plastic circle on top where u can look inside and see a red dot if it needs water, blue if its ok and clear if the battery is dead. theres usually a little sticker next to it explaining it all.

1NICESC430, quick question for you. Where do you attach the negative (ground) alligator clip to when you're charging?
I'm planning to charge two batteries (one while it is still in the vehicle and I have a spare battery that I keep at home).
Obviously for the battery that I keep in the house, I will connect the red alligator clip to the POS post & the black clip to the NEG post of the battery.
But if the battery is in the car, where do you connect the black clip? Do you connect it to the NEG post or do you connect it to the chasis of the vehicle?
The instructions that came with the charger states that you should connect it to the vehicle chasis.....but I never understood that. Why isn't it a good idea to connect it to the NEG post of the battery? Just curious.

Cadd ...
In spite of all the dire warnings, I attached it directly to the battery. My fingers are still intact, I can still see, and I'm definitely closer to alive than dead.
Incidentally, because I leave that part of the harness attached all year, I used the round connectors rather than the alligator clips.

I attached mine to a unpainted bolt, which grounded it. But my understanding is that the NEG post of the battery is connected to something that is grounded......so shouldn't it be OK to connect it to the battery?
I'm thinking about using the round connectors as well (connecting them to the bolts of the battery). Another question for you.....where do you run the wires?
I personally ran them down to the floor (there's an open spot between the battery & the motor where I was able to see the ground. Do you have a better/easier solution?

Storage
I am going to store my SC430 for about 6 months in Phoenix (outside in shade) and I plan to put the car on stands. My question is where are the best locations for the jacks? I am worried about putting them at the jacking points as I think they might do some damage there. Is there a good central jacking point for a floor jack? Also I was told at a tire store here that it is best to drop run flat tire pressures to about 10 pounds, anyone else heard this? Thanks for any advice.
