Is $61,000 too much to pay for 2005 SC430?

What he said......that's a great price if it includes all fees.

With run flats, spoiler, cargo net, wheel locks, cargo pad, and wheel covers for $58,500 plus DMV fees and sales tax three weeks ago near Silicon Valley.
"Give something back" like negotiate for a 50% discount on a service contact, tell them it is not your first color choice, etc. If they still will not deal, tell them you'll wait for the "newly redesigned" 2006.

Now...back to your SC. I can't comment on either the OTD price or the pre-tax price without knowing more about the specific car and its options. For a new SC with average options 59-60K pre-tax doesn't sound bad, but to be honest 60K is more than I would pay for any car.........even brand-new. I haven't seen anything out there on the market yet over 40K.....( with the possible exception of the new GS 300 AWD)......that I thought was worth what it cost brand-new. Even the LS430....a marvelous car in almost every way...IMO is not worth 60K brand-new.

It seems that $3K OVER invoice is a bit much to pay.

I know that there are a lot of folks that have to have a brand new car so they can be the first at doing anything good or bad to the car - like the first scratch or stone chip, etc. I think a used 2004/05 SC430 would be the way to go. There are plenty pre-owned out there that would save you a lot more money than what you are talking about from buying new. In my local paper a loaded a 2005 with a 1k miles was being sold for 56k. Of course you might have less of a choice on a color unless you waited for the right used one to come along.
I shopped for a pre-owned and found a loaded 2004 SC430 with 3k miles for 53k. It stickered for about 65k.
Again some folks have to have new and I respect that but I always look for a pre-owned car that someone has changed their mind on ownership.
