CaptMike,

That is a ridiculous experience. That Lexus dealer is out of his mind! There are plenty of Sc430's out there. You should be able to drive one without a previous committment to purchase it.

I have an 03 C230 Coupe that went out of warranty with Mercedes. It is my wifes' ride and we like the car, but the service has been awful and the car has had continuous issues. It is the first Benz that we have kept past the warranty. As I'm writing this, the "Check Radiator Fluid Level" light is on. This car sucks!!! Two weeks ago the "Check Engine Light" was on.
If we can go a month without some warning light coming on we celebrate!
Mercedes Benz is a great car until the free maintenance expires. Then it becomes a rich mans car to maintain. $450.00 for a regular service is a bit too much for me.
We purchased a 2006 RX400h to go with our 2003 SC430. We are selling the little Benz.

The Sc430 has been a great car and I expect the same from the RX400h.

I don't think that you'll go wrong with a Lexus. Lots of luck to you.

Gently to ya,

Flatfoot

To set the record straight.

It was not an agreement to purchase it. It was to agree upon the price "if" I decided to purchase it at the end of the test drive.

The salesman knew that I had an alternate price for the car quoted to me. He stated that he could not beet that price, 2-3K less that he wanted, and the only way we were going for a test drive is if I agreed to his price. Nothing was going to be signed at that point.

But I agree that this is a new concept that I had never heard of..

Went to test drive a new SL500 today......not bad.

That's ridiculous, I don't think you'll have problem getting a test drive of the SC at any other dealers.

i agree with eveyrone else that it's ridiculous request from the sales, i would have complained about him to manager.... why do you have to agree on CRAP for test driving a car? that's stupid. countless times i go to dealership and the demo car is either out or whatever, and i just get in another new car with 10 miles and drive it.

that's so stupid...

So was this a don't waste my time message from the sales guy since you had a better price elsewhere ?

I think that is very short sighted. You should never define a customer only by the ones that have their checkbooks open and are ready to sign.
