Mines been on since 07 and still looks good. It might be bad if it comes off, but then again it isn't supposed to come off. And if it does, I'll clean it up and put it back on.
That's my point, as long as they stay on you are good to go. It's when they come off there's a problem. My first red flag is stripping all of the paint protection away with alcohol, then using an adhesive on the unprotected paint. Creates a great bond but I have nightmares of catching an edge on a coat or something and pulling the guard along with the paint right off because of that great bond. Not to mention in the Florida sun the chance of the "clear" plastic fading or oxidizing and turning to that lovely yellow smoke color. Finally, if you do take it off dealing with any adhesive might just be problematic depending on if it stayed "gooey" or turned to rock hard cement like the cheaper stuff will do. Paint fade underneath? Discoloration from the adhesive? Just too many things that "could" go wrong for me and I know I am somewhat of a nut-job with this type of thing.
I will just be ever-conscious about where I park and how I open my doors and if by chance I do get a nick, it's off to a professional for the right fix. As a matter of fact, that is where I am going today!! My doors from the previous owner are trashed, so it's off to a professional for some touch-up and I will do some before and after pics. The before pics will be shocking!!
TOXIC

I have the front (hood, bumber, fenders) of my SC and mirrors covered with the 3M film, and so far it has been great
