Hello Lexianers,

I wanted to let you know that I was able to solve the problem with the heating/air conditioning.

About three months ago, the water pump and timing belt were replaced. The cooling system wasn't fully bled, and I've now discovered that it was missing about two liters of coolant.

There was no warning light on the system.

After I fully bled the cooling system and topped up the missing coolant, the system is working perfectly again.

Thank you all for the advice and tips.

Best regards, Holger

That's great news and and interesting factoid. I've not replaced the coolant in mine, but when I do I'll keep this in mind.

Cheers

How is it possible to replace the water pump and have that very large volume of coolant missing.
Wouldn't the engine overheat ?

I assume the coolant recovery opaque overflow container was totally empty ? This would be fairly obvious if a mechanic was doing the water pump replacement job....
Just asking....

Hi, I was also very surprised by this "condition." They really botched the job. I haven't driven much since the inspection and haven't noticed any abnormal readings during that time; everything seems normal, except for the heating/air conditioning acting up. Which explains why a large air bubble reached the heater core.

On top of that, the coolant expansion tank is hidden, and our SC430s in Germany have a closed system, while the US versions have an open system.

Best regards, Holger
